The release of the upcoming arena combat game Star Wars: Hunters has been pushed to 2023 so that the developer can live up to the ‘high expectations’ of ardent fans. The announcement was made on Twitter, where developer Zynga confirmed that the game needed refinement due to the title’s big ambitions.

The statement read, ‘Our ambition is to create a competitive battle arena game that will entertain for years to come. To ensure we meet the high expectations we are setting for fans globally and ourselves as developers, we have made the decision to delay the worldwide launch of Star Wars: Hunters.’
‘We invite all players to join us on Vespaara when Star Wars: Hunters launches in 2023 on Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android devices. We understand game delays are frustrating, however, our top priority is ensuring players will have the best possible experience in the Arena,’ said Zynga.
Some players already have access to the game, thanks to a soft launch in a few countries. The development team stated that until Hunters is completely released, this version would continue to get regular updates.
Star Wars: Hunters is a squad-based PvP shooter that offers what seems to be a one-of-a-kind experience for franchise fans, with the battle arena genre opening up the possibilities for new combat and a wide variety of new characters. Early looks at the game have already revealed several standouts, such as J-3DI, a droid who thinks he is a true Jedi, and Utooni, who is literally two Jawa brothers in a huge cloak.
First announced in February 2021, the game’s initial release date objective was later that year before it got delayed to 2022. Later in the year, Zynga launched a cinematic and gameplay trailer showcasing the playable characters (check it out above), but there haven’t been many significant announcements since. We won’t see more of the game until 2023, but that should allow the development team plenty of time to iron out any hitches and welcome enthusiastic new players into the fold.
