BGMI Disappears in From PlayStore, Banned!

I’m sure we all have heard about PUBG Mobile, it was all the rage in 2018-20 before it was taken down by the Indian Government as it reportedly had tied with a Chinese company that used the game to extract sensitive information of Indian players. The ban of the game left millions of players in India in remorse as the craze of this game was something else. The game was later relaunched as Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) exclusively in India. Krafton, creator of the game ensured Indians that they’d cut all ties to Tencent, a Chinese based company. Krafton tied up with Microsoft for Azure to host BGMI. The game was launched on 2nd July 2021 for Android users and later on 18th August for iOS users. The game is a multiplayer battle royale game which was developed and published by Krafton.

After the relaunch everything seemed to be fine. Things were smooth for the last year or so but that was simply the silence before the storm. About a year later, today, we have news that BGMI was taken down by the Indian Government once again as fans can’t find the game on Play Store.

Has BGMI Been Banned In India?

So BGMI players, this is not a glitch but an actual ban. Recently, Rajya Sabha had raised issues related to the game and the game suddenly disappearing couldn’t be coincidental. This time the issues wasn’t about information theft rather, the impact such action titles have on young children’s minds. An example of what they mean is “child has killed his mother based on PUBG that he has been playing”. The incident took place in Lucknow last month.

A company representative mentioned to India Today Tech, “We are clarifying how BGMI was removed from the Google Play store and the App store and will let you know once we get specific information”. A spokesperson from Google also made his comments to India Today Tech, “On receipt of the order, following established process, we have notified the affected developer and have blocked access to the app that remained available on the Play Store in India”.

For now, the players who already have the game downloaded on their phones, are able to use it. However, the game recently issued an update that is worrying players of its potential ban. Looking at the current happenings that would be good bet. The investigation and a proper statement from the involved parties should initiate soon.
