First Kill is a new Netflix show that premiered on the streaming giant on 10th June 2022. The show was a queer drama that focused on the world of vampires and vampire hunters. The show did have a interesting premise where Juliette is a teenage who is scouting girls all over town for her first kill and she finally lays her eyes on Calliope. She targets Calliope as her First Kill. However, to her Calliope is a Vampire Hunter. Both find that the other won’t be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for. The show was produced by Emma Roberts. Despite having an interesting premise the show received mixed reaction from critics.
However, it seems like the show did find a fan base of its own as it crossed 100 Million viewing hours. That number is mighty impressive, this is added to the confusion after Netflix announced the show’s been cancelled after Season 1. Fans are furious and they’ve taken it out on Twitter. Let’s see what they have to say.
Fans furious at Netflix for First Kill’s Cancellation
It seems like fans are upset because the show was specifically queer drama that got cancelled. I mean that is not fair. They’re ranting about Netflix because they think despite the show’s good performance Netflix have cancelled it. I mean to be honest I too am unaware the reason behind Netflix’s cancellation but it is definitely not because Netflix doesn’t support the LGBTQIA+ community. The Fear Street movies are basically surrounded around lesbian relationships.
Even other Netflix shows are pretty open about the LGBTQIA+ sexual identities of their characters. However, this is one of the rare shows that has such characters in the lead roles. So Netflix cancelling such a show does raise some eyebrows. I think it is unfair to attack Netflix like this but I think they’re cancelling every show that does not guarantee them a hit given their current subscriber situation. Anyways let’s see what the fans have to say.
it doesn’t even matter if you think first kill was ‘good’ or not like it objectively makes no sense that it was canceled. it did crazy numbers. the quality of the content doesn’t matter.

if you’re having a conversation about why First Kill was cancelled don’t forget to mention that Calliope is a darkskin black lesbian lead and nonblacks can deny all they want but Calliope being black especially darkskin plays a huge role its not just bc FK is a lesbian show

netflix is weird as hell for cancelling first kill. a successful wlw show with a black female lead being cancelled after outperforming SEVERAL netflix originals?… what

there was literally no reason to cancel first kill. it had more than 30 million views in its first week and more than 40 million it’s second, it was trending on twitter for weeks before and after it’s release and it was in the top 10 shows in over 80 countries for several weeks

first kill did infinitely better in numbers than heartstopper but yk what the difference is? that its a lesbian show and netflix didnt even give it a budget or a chance just like the other shows they’ve cancelled

we're not comapring first kill with heartstopper we're comparing how netflix treats mlm-centric shows to how they treat their wlw shows
