Yellowjackets is a 2021 psychological drama that focuses on a group of New Jersey High School soccer team in 1996 who travel to Seattle for a national tournament. As they’re flying over Canada, the plane crashes deep in the wilderness and the surviving team members are left to survive in the woods for the next nineteen months. The show chronicles their attempts to survive while also navigating their current lives in 2021. The show started streaming on Showtime on 14th November 2021. Since its debut the show has garnered immense critical acclaim and the masses seem to love it. The show has rose to fame with the help of its great word of mouth. The show’s premise is similar to the Netflix juggernaut Stranger Things and Dark, another Netflix original.
At the time of writing Yellowjackets has a score of 7.9 out of 10 on IMDb and a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In the 2022’s Emmy Nominations, the show was massively snubbed in many categories but still managed to get three nomination in Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actress in a Drama and Supporting Actress in a Drama. The show was created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and in a recent appearance on The Wrap they talked about their plans for Season 2.
Yellowjackets Season 2 Coming in 2023?
Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson mentioned they’re done filming the 2nd Season but gave us a disappointing update on the premiere date. Unlike the common suspicion that they show would return in late 2022, the show is going to return much later than what was suspected. Ashley Lyle clarified by saying, “We’re looking into the first quarter of 2023,” Lyle told The Wrap. “We are on a very similar production track in terms of time as we were last season, although of course we have to shoot an additional episode because we had already shot the pilot the last time.”
She further went on to say, “I believe we are going to finish shooting in about February and we’ll be airing sometime shortly after that. Nobody wanted to get back on the air quickly more than we did. But we really rolled directly from finishing up Season 1 into Season 2,” Lyle added. “It’s a deeply serialized story, and we wanted to make sure we didn’t rush it, and that we got it right. And so, this was the earliest we could accomplish that.”
Co-showrunner Bart Nickerson continued, “One thing about the show doing really well, that maybe I hadn’t anticipated, was how much responsibility Ashley and I and Jonathan and the whole team feel to earn the level of affection the audience is showing,” Nickerson further mentioned. “The idea of delivering something that wasn’t as good as the first season was just too much to bear. So, I said, ‘I think that we should take a little more time with this and just make sure it’s really good.'”
The series stars Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Ella Purnell, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Sammi Hanratty, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Christina Ricci, and Juliette Lewis.
The first season of Yellowjackets is streaming on Showtime and Voot Select.
