2022 saw the return of many big Netflix shows with new seasons. Ozark, Stranger Things, Locke & Key, etc. The Umbrella Academy was one of them as the show returned with its 3rd Season and if the past is any indication, things are about to get crazier. The 2nd Season of the show ended on a note that both shocked and excited the audiences for the next season. And well, folks the next season is out now. Season 3 introduces us to quite a new factors and adds elements to the already weird and eerie world. It continues somethings from the 2nd Season but also starts something new. Although, Season 3 was a lot weaker than its previous installments it did leave us with a lot of questions, truly in The Umbrella Academy fashion. You know what I mean if you’ve completed it.
Despite the problematic storytelling of the 3rd Season, the show’s performance hasn’t wavered. The show was able to attract many eyeballs in a desperate time for Netflix. Naturally after analyzing the viewership numbers of The Umbrella Academy Netflix has greenlit its 4th Season but as I’d predicted, the 4th season is the last season. All the big Netflix shows are ending like Ozark, Better Call Saul, Stranger Things and The Umbrella Academy just got added to the list. This is a difficult phase for Netflix and to get through it Netflix has to bring out content that is able to hold the subscribers.
Why is The Umbrella Academy with the 4th Season?
Season 3 of the Umbrella Academy felt like a huge filler season for something that is coming next. Given the multiple hints that the show is exhausting its story it was inevitable that the show is ending in its 4th Season. Season 3 has left us excited about Season 4 but also fear as what if for the final season the show tries to top its predecessor in craziness. If that happens the finale would be thoroughly underwhelming. The showrunners have stated that Season 4 will bring closure to the audiences. I hope Season 4 is like the first two seasons of the show.
Steve Blackman told Netflix about the new world and his characters that are walking in this new timeline. He said, “This new timeline has been dictated by Hargreeves, who reprogrammed the Universe at the end of the Season 3 finale. But because of Allison’s actions, he didn’t get to finish what he started before Allison pressed the reset button,” he observed. “So, the siblings losing their powers isn’t going to be the only oddity in this timeline. There are new enemies who want to see them wiped out of existence, but how do they manage without their powers? Is there even a way to get them back? The stakes have never been greater.”
The news of the show’s renewal for a 4th season came to fans through the official Twitter handle of The Umbrella Academy. Check out the announcement here:

Steve Blackman while talking with The Wrap, clarified why the is show ending with its 4th Season. He said, “I think inevitably if we got a Season 4, it’s going towards an endgame,” Blackman elaborated. “I think at a certain point, I’m not sure where we’d go after Season 4. We have to be careful. My plan for next year is not to continually tread on the same ground we have before. It’s a challenge to come up with a new way to subvert this storyline, and I think we have an idea how to do that. But I think if we got to Season 4, it would be a great ending for the run of the show. I’m not saying I couldn’t do more, but you know, I think that would be very satisfying for the audience, four seasons.”
The show stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore.
All three seasons of The Umbrella Academy are available to stream on Netflix. The Umbrella Academy Season 4 doesn’t have a release date yet.
