Knives Out 2 First Reviews Roundup - Reactions Are Extremely Positive!

Rian Johnson who has directed films like Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Looper was the mastermind behind the whodunnit thriller called Knives Out which released in 2019. The film centered around the Drysdale family as their Patriarch (Christopher Plummer) is murdered and Mr. Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is anonymously hired to solve the case. The film takes us through an enormous ride of ups and downs. The film had great set-ups and pay offs as almost everything from the very start of the film was somehow connected to the murder. Nothing in the film is wasted. That’s a sign of a good screenplay. It was very economical and with the comic treatment of the film, it was a clear winner.

Knives Out reminded viewers what old Hollywood films used to be like. With great sets, multiple characters and so on. However along with that it also brought a fresh take on the murder mystery genre. It was great combination of nostalgia innovation. Especially for a genre that isn’t exactly thriving in this era. The film was critically acclaimed as well as won the hearts of the audiences. So, you’d think that the studio which made the first film will greenlit a sequel but that was not the case.

Lionsgate didn’t. T’was Netflix that bought the rights and greenlit two Knives Out sequels. One of them is coming to the streaming giant this year. That being said, until now the details regarding the sequel has been sparse however, last month Netflix revealed new images from the sequel and along with that its release date. Soon after that audiences were treated with the first trailer of the film. Although, today we have the first batch of reviews from the people who’ve seen the film months before its release. Let’s see what they’ve said.

Is Glass Onion Better Than Knives Out?

Almost every critic that has seen Glass Onion has praised the film, I’ve not heard or read any review that badmouths the sequel. In fact many have placed the sequel higher than the original film. We all know that 2019’s Knives Out was extremely well made film and if the sequel tops that then we’re in for something special. The film as the time of writing has a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 91% coupled with an extremely impressive IMDb score of 8.1/10. The numbers speak for itself. Now let’s hear some words.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery may look like an extremely expensive film but the sequel is being made in the same budget like the original- $40 Million. Considering the hype and the success of the original, my bet is that Glass Onion would highly successful. The sequel just like the original has an amazing cast. With Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc at the center of affairs, the supporting cast of the film includes Edward Norton, Madelyn Cline, Kathryn Hahn, Dave Bautista, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, and Ethan Hawke.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will premier on Netflix this year, on 23rd December 2022 after completing its run in select theatres.
