2022 gave us Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the sequel to the much underrated 2016 Doctor Strange film. While the sequel was successful on a box office level, many fans including myself found Doctor Strange 2 to be underwhelming. I think the true culprit of the film was its marketing that promised us a mind bending rather than a simple MCU story. I mean for a film titled Multiverse of Madness, the film majorly takes place only in 3-4 universes. The other universes only popped up in the 39 second long sequence at the start of the film. The film had faced some creative differences with Scott Derrickson quitting the project as he had a much darker version in mind. Then Sam Raimi took over the reigns and gave us the film we have today.
After the release, the director revealed that about 40 minutes of the film was chopped off and I was infuriated by this as to why? Were more shows in a day worth the underwhelming result? Well, what can we do. The film also promised us a taste from horror genre. Well, we got something to say the least. The theatrical cut of the film didn’t offer us much but a lot of concept art done in the development of the film did suggest that the film was originally going to be much more violent and scary but then Disney realized that they can’t make a R-rated film. After the concept art of Wanda decapitating Mordo, today we have a cut out stunt sequence from the film and it’s a doozy. If we’ve gotten anything from the video into the film then trust me a R-rating was guaranteed.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: Wanda Causes a Massacres at Kamar-Taj!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness showed us the dark side of Wanda once she snaps. She was behind America Chavez who had the powers of multiversal travel. She chases her in form of monster but after Strange approaches her for help and figures out that she is the on who is culprit then she goes after Chavez without holding back. At first, she launches an attack on Kamar Taj where America is hiding under Strange’s protection. In the film, we saw that she causes a havoc at Kamar-Taj.
However, according to this new deleted footage of the choreographed stunt sequence it looks like Wanda would’ve gone absolutely bat shit crazy. I think we can easily can say that in the film we saw the reasonable Wanda but at least in some version of the script we saw the unreasonable Wanda. She doesn’t simply attack Kamar-Taj destroys the place, she kills everyone there and not PG-13 deaths, they were Tarantino disgusting deaths with a lot of blood.
In the footage we see Wanda slit the throat of one of her enemies and quickly behead them. Wasting no time, Wanda decides, ‘why not use that corpse,’ and she starts to magically animate him, using him against his former allies. It turns out she’s a pretty apt puppeteer. Then she takes the opportunity to pop someone’s head—possibly practicing for her encounter with Black Bolt and Reed Richards. The sequence ends with Wanda literally crushing a sorcerer in a flash sphere.
