One of the most promising young female actors and the youth sensation – Millie Bobby Brown has bagged another Netflix project under her belt that is soon turning into a Franchise – Enola Holmes. The Netflix original film is soon turning itself into a franchise. It seems like Millie Bobby Brown is the saving grace of Netflix as both of her collaborations with the streaming giant have turned out to be successes. Everyone knows about Stranger Things but Enola Holmes too performed very well and Netflix was impressed by its performance. The film has gathered a little fan club that led Netflix to greenlit a sequel. The first film came out in September 2020. Brown’s performance as Sherlock Holmes’ sister- Enola was praised. I found her performance to be inspired but the overall story of the film was kind of bland. The themes of the film were excellent though.
The misogyny in the era the film is set in, the appreciation Sherlock gets while Enola is always ignored is handled really well. From that perspective the film makes an extremely strong statement. However, if the overall story would’ve been more interesting, the film would’ve worked better. Although, all is well that ends well. Netflix has ordered a sequel and the filming for the same concluded this year. We were getting sparse updates about the sequel but last month Netflix unveiled the first poster for the sequel. The poster had a Where’s Waldo style where all the characters were scattered through out the poster along with meaning less details. Within the next few days, Netflix released some stills from the film that showed are favorite characters in action. While all this was fun, we hadn’t seen any footage from the film. Well that changes today, as Netflix released the trailer for the sequel at TUDUM’22.
Enola Holmes 2 Trailer: A Fun and Exciting Holmes Adventure?
The trailer of the upcoming film is extremely fun and light just like the film promises to be. However, the trailer does reveal a lot about the sequel which I don’t really appreciate. Trailers are supposed to excite audiences for films whilst not giving away much. The gist of the story from what I gather from the trailer is, after the events of the first film Enola opens a detective agency of her own. It’s naturally not working as no one believes in a women detective given the period and setting.
Everyone is coming to her agency just about to ask about Sherlock. As she is dealing with that disappointment, a small girl approaches her to find her missing sister. Thus, kicking off the plot of this film. What follows is snippets of Enola trying different things to get leads which includes running from people, crashing parties, following suspects and all kinds of things. The trailer also gives us a look at Louis Partridge’s Tewkesbury. The fire of romance between Enola and him is fanned. We see Enola breaking the fourth wall multiple times.
The trailer also suggests that Henry Cavill’s Sherlock is going to play a much bigger role in the sequel compared to the first one. I just hope he doesn’t cloud Enola. It appears that the case Sherlock was struggling with is connected with Enola’s. My guess is that the missing sister case will be connected to Enola’s mother’s organization. I wish that the trailer didn’t reveal so much and kept things a bit more vague. That being said, November appears to be a big month for Netflix and Enola Holmes 2 is one of the reasons why. I’m awaiting the film’s arrival.
