All 8 Upcoming Anime Announced At Netflix DROP 01 Event

On September 27, Netflix united fans for its first-ever DROP 01. It is a virtual showcase featuring the digital premiere of Castlevania: Nocturneand celebrating the best of animated series. Here are all 8 upcoming anime announced at Netflix DROP 1 Event.

Devil May Cry

Dante is back! Run by Capcom Devil May Cry is one of the most popular game franchises. Taking a cue from the video game, the animated show will center on Dante. The portal linking the demons and human realms is being torn open by evil powers, who threaten disaster if they are successful. The showrunner will be Castlevania creator Adi Shankar, and Studio Mir will be in charge of the animation. No release date has been confirmed yet. Netflix advertises the show as “coming soon”.

Sonic Prime

Sonic Prime is based on the classic video game series Sonic the Hedgehog. Netflix describes the story: When an explosive battle with Dr. Eggman shatters the universe, Sonic races through parallel dimensions to reconnect with his friends and save the world. Season 3 is expected to run for 8 episodes just like its previous seasons. This season should be the final one given the fact that WildBrain announced that Sonic Prime will include 24 episodes in total.

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is inspired by Far Cry 3’s beloved Blood Dragon DLC. “The year is 1992. The country formerly known as the USA is now called Eden, a technocracy ruled by propaganda and corruption,” the official description reads. “Super-soldier Dolph Laserhawk has just been betrayed by the love of his life, his boyfriend Alex Taylor, and locked up in Eden’s off-the-grid maximum security prison, Supermaxx.”

“Dolph is forced to lead a team of rebel outcasts on risky undercover missions under the order of the prison’s shadowy Warden. CAPTAIN LASERHAWK: A BLOOD DRAGON REMIX is an original animated series mixing alternative Ubisoft characters from beloved franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Rayman, and Far Cry in a highly referenced homage to the early 90s.” Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix will officially be released on Netflix on October 19, 2023.

Blue Eye Samurai

Wife and husband duo Noizumi and Michael Green co-created Blue Eye Samurai. “We want people to sink into it and be taken by the story and the level of artistry and forget they’re watching animation,” said Green. “We would love this to cross over into every interest — that if you like The Witcher, if you like animation, if you like Game of Thrones, if you like The Crown, if you like historical drama, if you like Shakespeare in Love, if you like Tarantino movies, there’s something in Blue Eye Samurai for you.” Set in 17th-century Edo-period Japan, the show follows Mizu, a mixed-race master of swords who resides in disguise seeking revenge. The animated series is coming to Netflix on November 3.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

Based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novels which were adapted into a 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is bringing back Scott, Ramona Flowers, and all seven of her evil exes. For this animated series, the original film cast will reprise their roles. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off consisting of eight episodes is coming to Netflix on November 17, 2023.

Pluto

Releasing on October 26, 2023, Pluto is based on the spin-off of Osamu Tezuka’s popular series Astro Boy. This Netflix original series follows robotic Europol inspector Gesicht who is employed to investigate the tragic death of the legendary Swiss robot Montblanc.

Masters of the Universe: Revolution

Masters of the Universe: Revolution will feature Chris Wood as He-Man and Mark Hamill as Skeletor. The new additions to the cast include Meg Foster as Motherboard, Melissa Benoist as Teela, Kevin David as Hordak, and William Shatner in an unconfirmed role. This sequel series continues the universe built in Revelation. The show will be premiering on Netflix in 2024.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft takes place after the 2013-2018 Tomb Raider trilogy reboot. This animated television series is based on the video game series by Crystal Dynamics. It stars Hayley Atwell, Allen Maldonado, and Earl Baylon as the voices of Lara Croft, Zip, and Jonah Maiva, respectively. The show will be released on Netflix in 2024.
