Dragon Ball Magic Has Not Been Cancelled, Here's All You Need to Know

Just a few days ago, we confirmed some incredible new information about the future of Dragon Ball anime. Prominent leakers like DBSHype, DBSChronicles, and Geekdom101 revealed that a new web anime called Dragon Ball Magic is coming really soon. Sadly, fans were quite excited to hear about this and just a day after this news broke the Internet, certain fans launched a severe backlash. Owing to that, certain media outlets published news about Dragon Ball Magic being cancelled but is that the case?

Has Dragon Ball Magic Been Cancelled?

Dragon Ball Magic Leaks and Spoilers - All We Know About the New Web Anime

The simple answer is no, the series has not been cancelled. In fact, it hasn’t even been officially announced yet, so how can it be cancelled. Sure, the fan backlash has hurt the leakers a lot calling them fakes and what not, but that doesn’t mean the show has been axed. To move forward, we first need to understand the reason behind the tremendous backlash. It is quite simple – most fans expected news about Dragon Ball Super Season 2 but were instead given news about a new anime no one asked for. But this backlash would result in nothing as leakers are pretty sure about it and everything that’s happening is also pointing towards Dragon Ball Magic.

As you may know by now, Toei is bringing an official Dragon Ball panel at New York Comic Con 2023. The Dragon Ball Special Panel is going to take place on Thursday, Oct 12, 2023 between 12:45 PM and 1:45 PM at Empire Stage. Official description of the panel reads, “Delivering the latest information on the world-famous manga and anime franchise, “Dragon Ball”. We will talk about new developments in the Dragon Ball series, along with a mysterious new teaser. Also the appearance of special guests!” This new mysterious teaser being talked about here is most definitely going to be about Dragon Ball Magic. What further confirms this is that Akio Iyoku himself is going to be present at the event and he only makes appearances in US when something major related to the anime is announced.

Of course, Dragon Ball Super Season 2 is also a remote possibility for this teaser but the chances are nearly non-existential. However, we may hear certain updates about Dragon Ball Super as well, maybe just a confirmation that it is also under production like One Punch Man Season 3. As for Dragon Ball Magic, it is a new streaming series which will come out directly on Crunchyroll (potentially) and not air on Fuji TV like its predecessors. The timeline of the series is set sometime near the end of Dragon Ball Z.

As for the plot, the very first arc of Dragon Ball Magic will see Goku and Supreme Kai being turned into kids by a new villain (possibly a demon). They both now have to work together to figure out how to become adult sized again and how to defeat the new villain. Yes, this sounds a lot like Dragon Ball GT but no, it is not a recreation of GT, although it borrows a few plot elements from it. Dragon Ball Magic will have an adventure-feel with a lot of exploration and fight sequences, however, it will probably use more brain than brawns this time. Aside from this, 2-3 new characters will join the team which includes a girl with a sword and a guy with a gun or vice versa.
