Dragon Ball - New Teaser to Be Shown At NYCC 2023, Is It About Anime Return?

Dragon Ball Franchise still remains one of the most popular franchise to date with tons of merchandising, pop culture references, and huge fan base. It is impossible that you visit a comic con and not see a bunch of cosplayers dressed as DB characters. So, yeah even though it has been 5 years since we last saw it on screen, its presence is overwhelming. With the release of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero last year and the end of Granolah Arc of the manga, all eyes are now on 2 things. First, Beast Gohan’s manga debut, which we might see this month itself and second, the return of the anime. Today we’ll talk about the latter and if you want to know more about the manga, check out this article.

Toei To Make A Major Dragon Ball Announcement At NYCC 2023

Whenever anything remotely exciting regarding Dragon Ball’s anime takes place, fans literally break the internet. So has been the case since a past few hours as Dragon Ball is not just trending but fans are losing their minds over a major announcement. New York Comic Con’s official website confirmed that there is going to be a Dragon Ball Special Panel on Thursday, Oct 12, 2023 between 12:45 PM and 1:45 PM at Empire Stage. They wrote, “Delivering the latest information on the world-famous manga and anime franchise, “Dragon Ball”. We will talk about new developments in the Dragon Ball series, along with a mysterious new teaser. Also the appearance of special guests!”

Not just the NYCC website, but Toei Animation, Official Super JP Account, Dokkan Battle (Both JP & EN), SDBH Account, as well as DB Games Official Account tweeted the same on X (formerly Twitter). Some of this was removed quickly from the internet but it gave enough time to spread the info all around the internet and now there is no denying that all of them did post the information. They just can’t back out from it, hence, removing the tweets doesn’t actually make any sense. There are screenshots of them all around the internet and therefore, this is pretty much official. The only question that remains is that what would this panel be about and what exactly will it reveal?

As @DBSHype pointed out, “the mention of a mysterious new teaser alone has revived some excitement in the fandom” as this year has been pretty much dead for Dragon Ball fans. DBS Chronicles also emphasised that while 2023 was the year of One Piece, 2024 is going to be the year of Dragon Ball. Combine this with all the rumors and leaks in the past year and there is a strong chance that we may witness anime announcement at NYCC 2023. The teaser and announcement they mentioned could only be about two things – either Budokai Tenkaichi 4 or Dragon Ball anime return!

As you may know, the Budokai Tenkaichi 4 game was announced earlier this year but since then there has been no news about it. So, it is highly likely that the panel may be about it although one has to think does BK4 merit such a big announcement that they had to book the main panel at NYCC 2023? Which leaves us with the possibility of anime return. Now before you get too hyped, anime return doesn’t necessarily mean Dragon Ball Super Season 2 or whatever the sequel would be called. It could also refer to the heavily rumored “original web anime” by Toei surrounding Goku himself. Even though this web anime is heavily rumored, Toei has not so much as even hinted about it in the past and if Goku is involved, then why haven’t they?

Anyways, it seems like fans are in for some exciting times and all eyes are now looking forward to October 12. The panel will surely provide us more updates on Budokai Tenkaichi 4 but just that can’t be it and hence, we expect to hear a major announcement for the future of Dragon Ball anime as well.
