In less than a week, Rick and Morty Season 6 will premiere on Adult Swim, but one of the season’s producers has revealed that early development on the show’s Season 8 has already started! Whether or not there will be a shorter gap between new seasons arose when it was revealed that Rick and Morty had been renewed for 70 additional episodes before the premiere of the fourth season of the series. The Rick and Morty team has been progressing in preparation for upcoming seasons, as fans have witnessed from the production process so far.
Rick and Morty Producer Promises Shorter Breaks Between Upcoming Seasons
In a recent interview with Inverse promoting the upcoming episodes, showrunner Scott Marder and producer James Siciliano revealed that work on Season 8 has already started in the writer’s room as Season 6 and Season 7 have moved onto other stages of development within the production. This news comes after fans of Rick and Morty received updates on Season 7 before the premiere of Season 6. The series’ creators hope to continue releasing one new season annually.
The Rick and Morty team is managing many seasons of the show at once, according to Sicilliano, who opened up about the workload they are now encountering, “There’s an unbelievable amount that we have going on. I don’t know how much we could talk about, but as far as the production, we have Season 6 coming out and Season 7 in production. We have the writers’ room for Season 8 going. So that’s about 20 episodes in some form of production, and the new season that we’re breaking.” Marder promised they will “have a season of the show every year from this point forward.”
The wait for each new season is harder than ever because of the series’ accelerated pace and the possibility of deeper plot connections between episodes. The official synopsis reads: “Rick and Morty are back!” Beginning just after the end of season five, the situation is complicated. Will they be able to experience new adventures? Or will they be swallowed by an ocean of piss? Who knows?! Piss! Family! Plot! Lots of dinosaurs! More piss! It will be another unforgettable season of your favourite series!”
Rick and Morty Season 6 will air on Adult Swim on September 4 at 11:00EST.
