The Star Wars: Maul, Shadow Lord Trailer Has Arrived

The galaxy far, far away just got a lot darker. A brand new trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord has officially arrived, and it puts one of the franchise’s most dangerous villains front and center. The animated series is coming to Disney+, and the trailer promises a gritty story filled with revenge, crime syndicates, and lightsaber chaos.

Fans have waited years for a deeper look at Darth Maul, and this show finally gives him the spotlight. Instead of being a side villain, Maul becomes the main character of a story set during one of the darkest periods in the Star Wars timeline.

The Story Takes Place After The Clone Wars

The series picks up shortly after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The Republic has fallen, the Empire is rising, and the galaxy is in chaos.  During this time, Maul is no longer a traditional Sith apprentice. Instead, he is trying to rebuild his power in the criminal underworld.

The story follows him as he attempts to reconstruct his syndicate and establish influence in a galaxy now controlled by the Empire. Much of the action takes place on the remote planet Janix, where Maul begins planning his next move. But he is not alone.

The trailer hints that Maul encounters a young Jedi survivor who is struggling after the collapse of the Jedi Order. This character, Devon Izara, becomes a key part of the story and may even become Maul’s new apprentice.

Basically, a Sith Lord trying to run a criminal empire while also mentoring a confused Jedi. That is already messy. And in Star Wars terms, messy usually means lightsabers.

What The Trailer Shows

The trailer wastes no time diving into action. Lightsabers clash, Imperial forces appear, and Maul looks very determined to ruin someone’s day. The footage teases battles with Imperial Inquisitors, bounty hunters, and other dangerous figures in the galaxy.

Several familiar Star Wars characters are hinted at in the trailer, including the Inquisitor known as the Eleventh Brother and the masked warrior Marrok. These appearances connect the series with other Star Wars shows and expand the wider timeline.

The animation style also stands out. Lucasfilm Animation uses a stylized version of the look seen in The Clone Wars, but with darker tones and dramatic visuals that match Maul’s brutal personality.

Release Date And Episode Plan

The animated series will premiere on April 6, 2026, on Disney+. The first two episodes will launch together, and new episodes will release weekly until the finale on May 4, also known as Star Wars Day. In total, the series will have 10 episodes. So yes, Lucasfilm basically planned the finale for the most Star Wars day possible. Subtle marketing? Not exactly.

Darth Maul has always been one of the most fascinating villains in the franchise. He survived being cut in half, rebuilt his life in the criminal underworld, and constantly sought revenge against his enemies.

This series explores that complicated journey in more detail than ever before. Instead of just showing Maul as a villain, Maul – Shadow Lord looks ready to explore his psychology, his ambitions, and the dangerous empire he hopes to build in the shadows.
