Toho has revealed that a revival of the beloved Funimation anime series Trigun, revolving around the good-natured gunman Vash the Stampede, will be available on Crunchyroll. The forthcoming reboot, titled Trigun Stampede, was officially announced on Thursday, June 16. The anime, which will be launched in 2023, will involve an all-new voice cast and animation team and will be simultaneously broadcasted from Japan in over 200 countries across the world. On Saturday, July 2, Crunchyroll’s panel at Anime Expo 2022 in LA will unveil more details.
Trigun: Stampede Is Set To Be Released In 2023
Trigun is based on Yasuhiro Nightow’s manga of the same name, which was first serialised in Monthly Shnen Captain in April 1995. It was turned into an anime series that premiered in 1998, achieving worldwide acclaim. Because of its vibrant mix of action, comedy, and drama, many fans now regard it as a classic. At the centre of the story is Vash the Stampede, an outlaw whose reputation for wreckage and violence has reached great heights, despite his calm demeanour and aversion to harming people. With a western space setting background, the story primarily takes place on a planet called No Man’s Land, where the protagonist is constantly chased by bounty hunters and two insurance agents who wish to hold him responsible for the property destruction that seems to follow him around everywhere.
The CG-based studio Orange, which previously worked on Land of the Lustrous and Netflix’s Beastars, will produce Trigun Stampede. The series now has its own official website, trigun-anime.com, as well as an official Twitter account, @trigun anime. At the Anime Expo event, Nightow and various producers of the reboot will discuss the specifics of the production with the audience and give them a look behind the scenes. Crunchyroll recently stated that the original Trigun anime and other famous Funimation anime releases, including Shinichiro Watanabe’s Space Dandy, would be added to its streaming library.
In March, Funimation’s streaming service urged users to switch to Crunchyroll, declaring that it would not be adding new titles to its platform any further. Crunchyroll was a competition for the company until Sony purchased Crunchyroll in 2021, after buying Funimation in 2017. Sony is integrating its anime library under a single brand, meaning physical copies from Funimation will now also bear the Crunchyroll label.
