Westworld Season 4 Episode 6 Review - Kill the Imposter

Westworld Season 4 Episode 6 is out now. Westworld Season 4 had started on an underwhelming note and I was the first one to point that out. The first two episodes of Season 4 felt like HBO milking one of their best shows passed its living days. The show didn’t feel like it had a story to tell which was unlike Westworld as even if the quality of the show had dropped after a mind-boggling Season 1, it always had a story to tell over the season. Well, the first two episodes didn’t give us that impression. However, the 3rd episode was a significant improvement over the rest of the season and for the most of Season 3. But it wasn’t until the Episode 4 where the show found its lost glory back. Episode 4 was one of the best episodes in the show.

The follow-up to that was Episode 5 and while it didn’t have a huge twist like its predecessor, the drama in the episode was strong enough to make it a valuable addition to the season. Episode 5 took whole hosts vs human conflict to another level, a level deeper than we’ve seen in pop culture. We got many answers to the questions that the season had raised earlier. Episode 5 ended on an interesting note that left me wondering how are they going to resolve the conflict that they’ve established. Well now that episode 6 is out we may have some answers.

Westworld Season 4 Episode 6 – Maeve the Savior?

Episode 6 starts from a flashback of Frankie and her mother rescuing Jay. Then a memory of Caleb’s. The memory is of Frankie. This episode weirdly follows only two tracks. A track of Bernard and C who are trying to rebuild Maeve and the other of Caleb trying to escape Charlotte while she wants to know from him how are the humans resisting her virus and why are her hosts getting infected by humans. Bernard and C take Maeve to the 1930s park which is now in ruins and try to rebuild Maeve while her other associates oppose her decision.

They believe there is a mole in them. C turns on Bernard. She finds out that Jay is the actually the imposter who was replaced by a host self when they tried to rescue an outlier in the previous episode. Jay is replaced as Charlotte wants to find C. Caleb escapes Charlotte’s prison by the clues left by his past versions. As he climbs out he sends a message to C but he realizes this was all a ploy by Charlotte to find out what will he tell his daughter. Maybe that will answer her questions. Maeve wakes up as her data transfer and body rebuilding is done.

This episode of Westworld ends with Charlotte killing Caleb as he tells her that she is the reason her hosts are committing suicide. They want to get away from her. Maeve and C teaming up to put an end to Charlotte’s tyranny. Maeve builds another body for Caleb but this time I’m not sure if he’ll be an all out host, who’ll act as inside spy for her or he’ll be just like the previous Caleb. I guess with this episode the second act of the entire season comes to an end. The remaining two episode of the season will act as the third act.

Verdict

Despite the episode following just two tracks. Despite the episode not telling us Christina’s story who is finally interesting. The episode was engaging and provided solid drama that was easy to latch on. The episode was very much in line with the pace of show. It didn’t waste time by showing us filler stuff. The episode was to the point where but doesn’t mean it was stoic. It thrived on relationships of characters and Maeve getting resurrected was like a cherry on the top.

The episode was successful in getting me excited for what’s about to come next. I just hope the season stick its landing. I hope the season doesn’t end like it started. HBO shows have tendency to end on horrible notes. We all know who I’m pointing at. The last 4 episodes of Westworld Season 4 have breathed life into a show that considered long dead. Based on the bar of the problem in front of us, they shouldn’t be able to relinquish it in the next two episodes. They can resolve a part of it. Otherwise the end might look too easy. Or they have to show us something absolutely crazy. I’m excited to see all the characters reunite with each other, especially Maeve and Dolores/Christina.

Westworld Season 4 Episode 6 is streaming on HBO Max or Disney+ depending on the region you live. New episodes will debut on every Sunday 9 pm ET or Monday 7.30 am IST.
