There are so many book-to-screen adaptations to look forward to this fall, from the TV show adaptation of The Fall of the House of Usher to the movie adaptation of Killers of the Flower Moon. Here is a list of 7 book-to-screen adaptations coming out in October and November 2023.

Foe by Ian Reid (Movie)

Sci-fi psychological thriller Foe is based on Ian Reid’s 2018 novel of the same name. Directed by Garth Davis, it stars Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal, and Aaron Pierre. It follows the lives of a married couple who go through a roller coaster ride when a stranger enters their lives to inform the husband he will be sent to a large space station, and a robot will keep his wife company. Release Date: October 6, 2023 (in theatres)

The Fall of the House of Usher based on Edgar Allan Poe (TV Show)

American gothic horror miniseries The Fall of the House of Usher is loosely based on the short story of the same name and other works by Edgar Allan Poe. The TV miniseries casts Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood, Mary McDonnell, Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel, and more. The miniseries touches on several of Poe’s stories – The Masque of the Red DeathThe Murders in the Rue MorgueThe Black CatThe Tell-Tale HeartThe Gold-Bug, and more. Release Date: October 12, 2023 (Netflix)

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus (TV Show)

Based on the novel of the same name by Bonnie Garmus, Lessons in Chemistry stars Brie Larson as chemist Elizabeth Zott. After being fired from her lab technician job, Elizabeth uses her 1960s TV show titled Supper at Six to educate housewives. Alongside Brie Larson, the cast includes Lewis Pullman, Aja Naomi King, Stephanie Koenig, and Patrick Walker. Release Date: October 13, 2023 (first two episodes on Apple TV+)

Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann (Movie)

Directed by Martin Scorsese American epic Western crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon is based on David Grann’s 2017 novel of the same name. The cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, and more. The plot centers on a series of Oklahoma murders in the 1920s Osage Nation, committed after oil was discovered on tribal land. Release Date: October 20, 2023 (in theaters)

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (TV Show)

Directed by Shawn Levy All the Light We Cannot See is based on Anthony Doerr’s novel of the same name. The film stars Aria Mia Loberti, Mark Ruffalo, and Hugh Laurie. The four-part series follows the stories of a blind French girl named Marie-Laurie and a German soldier named Werner, who met in occupied France during World War II. Release Date: November 2, 2023 (Netflix)

The Marsh King’s Daughter by Karen Dionne (Movie)

Based on Karen Dionne’s 2017 novel of the same name The Marsh King’s Daughter stars Daisy Ridley, Ben Mendelsohn, Caren Pistorius, Garrett Hedlund, Gil Birmingham, and Brooklynn Prince. Helena must face her past when her estranged father escapes prison. Two years before Helena was born, the Marsh King kidnapped her mother. Now convinced he will try to also take her daughter, Helena sets out to survive in the wilderness. Release Date: November 3, 2023 (in theatres)

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins (Movie)

American dystopian sci-fi action film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is based on Suzanne Collins’s 2020 book of the same name. The film stars Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer, Peter Dinklage, Viola Davis, Jason Schwartzman, and more. It is set 64 years before the events of the first film. The story follows young Coriolanus Snow and the events that lead to the journey to becoming the leader of Panem. Release Date: November 17, 2023 (in theatres)
