Forget the tux for a second, because we are going back to the beginning. The wait for a proper Bond game has been longer than a line at the DMV, but IO Interactive is finally delivering the goods. Their upcoming title, 007 First Light, officially drops on May 27, 2026. Originally teased as Project 007, this game isn’t just another shooter. It is an origin story for a young, slightly reckless, 26-year-old James Bond.
A Fresh Face and a Funky Villain

Say goodbye to the Daniel Craig era and hello to Patrick Gibson. He takes the lead as a raw MI6 recruit trying to earn his “Double 0” status. This isn’t a movie tie-in, so the developers had total freedom to make Bond a bit of a chaotic protagonist. To make things even wilder, the legendary Lenny Kravitz stars as the primary antagonist, a pirate king named Bawma. If you ever wanted to trade bullets with a rock star in a high-stakes espionage thriller, your oddly specific dream is coming true.
Hitman DNA, But Make It Cinematic

Since this comes from the masterminds behind the Hitman series, expect plenty of stealth and “social stealth” mechanics. You can choose to be a literal ghost, or you can go in with guns blazing like a traditional action hero. The gameplay focuses on player choice, offering multiple paths to finish a mission. You might talk your way past a guard, use a fancy gadget from Q, or just punch everyone in the room. IO Interactive promises these missions are some of the largest they have ever built, filled with globe-trotting locations and high-speed car chases featuring a weaponized Aston Martin.
Release Details and That $300 Golden Gun

The game launches across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. While the core game is the main attraction, collectors are currently losing their minds over the Legacy Edition. This $300 bundle includes a physical replica of the iconic Golden Gun, complete with gold bullets and a display stand. It is a bit pricey for a paperweight, but hey, looking cool at your desk is part of the spy lifestyle.
The game was supposed to arrive in March, but the team pushed the date back to May for some extra “polish.” According to the studio, the game is already fully playable from start to finish. They just want to make sure the frame rates stay smooth, and the gadgets don’t glitch into the floor. With the hype building and a partnership with Coca Cola Zero Sugar already hitting shelves, Bond is definitely back in the cultural spotlight.
