CDPR Stops Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and All Its Game Sales in Russia and Belarus

As sad, destructive, and unwanted the ongoing war is, it is the reality of our world. And a war like this one affects almost every aspect of our lives including entertainment and gaming. So, amidst the war many Hollywood studios like Disney, WB etc suspended all releases in Russia clearly siding with Ukraine. Similarly, now game studios are also following the suit. Recently EA suspended all its Esports activities in Russia and now CDPR has stepped up.

CDPR Halts Sales in Russia and Belarus

The popular Polish game studio CD Projekt Red has come forward in the support of Ukraine and has decided to halt all its sales in Russia and Belarus. This means gamers in the two countries will not be able to purchase games like The Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk 2077. Again, if all game studios follow this act, it would leave a huge dent in the Russian gaming market. Here’s what CDPR had to say while withdrawing sales.

In light of the Russian military invasion in our neighbouring country of Ukraine, until further notice the CD Projekt Group has made the decision to halt all sales of our games to Russia and Belarus. Today, we begin working with our partners to suspend digital sales and cease physical stock deliveries of CD Projekt Group products, as well as all games distributed on the GOG platform, to the territories of Russia and Belarus.

They went to say that they stand firm with the people of Ukraine and they lack the capacity to directly influence state matters. But they believe that commercial entities, if united, have the power to inspire global change. They ended by wishing strength to the people fighting for Ukraine and empathizing with them. Also, CDPR will be supporting humanitarian aid effort with a donation of one million PLN, which is approximately £173,000 or $232,000.

Here’s to hoping the war ends real soon and the world returns to some form of “normal” after many back to back historic events since 2019.
