God of War Ragnarok Valhalla - TC Carson and Greek Pantheon To Return

The Game Awards 2023 just took place a few days ago and some of the announcements made there completely blew fans minds away. The biggest one being God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla DLC which came out of nowhere! I mean seriously, if you claim to have seen this coming you are lying as there was absolutely no leaks, rumors, or anything about this expansion. We all surely expected an Atreus centred Half-Sequel or DLC but none of us expected more of Kratos so soon. The biggest update was not the DLC itself but how it is coming out just next week on December 12, 2023! Anyways, the trailer hyped fans all around the globe as the franchise tapped into its Greek side once again.

God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla to Hint Towards A Greek Pantheon Return?

God of War Ragnarok Valhalla Plot Details, Gameplay, All We Know

The Free Valhalla DLC can be played at any time during the game however, it is recommended that you play it after the main story. This is because it serves as an epilogue to God of War: Ragnarok. Here’s what PS Blog said about its narrative. The official synopsis reads, “God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla will be an epilogue to the events of God of War Ragnarok that follows Kratos on a deeply personal and reflective journey. Set after the decisive battle against Odin and Atreus’ departure, Kratos has seen a path for himself that he never thought possible before. Brought to the mysterious shores of Valhalla accompanied only by Mimir, Kratos will enter its unknown depths to overcome trials within himself and face echoes of his past.”

A worthy thing to note here is “Kratos will face echoes of his past” and that is what led to this article. It is quite clear from the trailer that we’ll be seeing elements from Greek Era of God of War in the DLC. Not only did we clearly see a Cyclopes at the end of the trailer, but we also heard the music from Greek Era. The Vengeful Spartan theme from God of War (2005) plays for a good 15 seconds of the trailer before a Cyclopes pops out on screen. Cyclopes as you remember are creatures from the Greek Pantheon who were seen in all three main games as well as the 3 spin-offs in the Greek Era.

So, it clear that Kratos will be encountering Greek enemies in Valhalla and fans have pointed out that this might be because he’ll be hallucinating or seeing the visions of his past. This brings us to our next theory which is that it is highly possible that we encounter Young Kratos in Valhalla. In fact, many fans are convinced that Young Kratos is going to be the final boss of this DLC, hence we might hear the OG Voice Actor TC Carlson once more! Crazy right? Although, this is completely a theory and rumor, it seems quite possible. This could also reward fans with an awesome character moment where our already redeemed Kratos further confronts his past self and overpower him.

Another little thing you’ll note about the DLC is that its cover art of Kratos entering Valhalla with Blades of Chaos is exactly like the cover art for God of War 2. Now coming to what the fans are most debating about – Why are Kratos and Mimir going to Valhalla in the first place? It’s pretty clear that there are certain artifacts they are trying to find but Valhalla is specifically the afterlife to those who died in battle. Therefore, fans believe they’re trying to find Freyr whose death was not exactly addressed well by the game. This theory does have some merit to it as this makes up for a really good reason for them to venture into Valhalla.
