We’re all aware of the massive hacking attack that Insomniac faced last week. The company had seen major success with its Spider-Man games. Spider-Man 2 was one of the best games of 2023. Last year we had God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West, this year we have another juggernaut by Sony for the gaming industry. The game was kept in dark for a long time before we got some information at Sony’s PlayStation Showcase 2023. Despite being such a huge success in the gaming community, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 didn’t win anything at the Game Awards this year. However, that’s the least of Insomniac’s worries. With the hacking attack, many company secrets and future plans have been revealed. One of the leaks suggested that Spider-Man 2 might be getting new DLCs very soon.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Might Get Free DLCs Featuring Carnage Soon!
Despite being such a huge success for Insomniac, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has not received any major update since its release. 2018’s Spider-Man had the paid The City That Never Sleeps season pass, but nothing of the sort has been announced for Spider-Man 2. However, if the recent leaks are to be believed then Insomniac is planning something huge for the game. The studio isn’t repeating what they did for the first game. The leak tells us, Marvel’s Venom that will most probably act as a Miles-Morales-style “half-sequel” is coming in 2025, but in the meantime, an alternate leak suggested that Spider-Man 2 owners can lick one’s lip over for a series of free DLC updates throughout 2024.
- The first one called Beetle Invasion is slated to arrive till March 2024. As the title suggests, this update will focus on B-tier Spider-Man villain Beetle. A new open world mission and boss fight can be expected from this update.
- The second update is set to release in Spring of 2024 titled Extreme Carnage. We all know which villain will feature in this update. Once again, a new mission and boss fight can be expected.
- Finally, a year from now, in the 2024 holiday season we’ll get Spider-Verse Anomaly. This will be a Spider-Verse inspired mission. Multiple villains are supposed to appear and many Spider-Man allies will also cameo. A filter will also be made available to give the game a Spider-Verse look.
As per initial reports, these DLCs are set to be free much like God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla. Considering how short the main game was, this would actually reward fans well however, it isn’t confirmed yet. Once all the DLCs are released, Insomniac plans to release Spider-Man 2 GOTY edition with all the content on disc, which could also coincide with the game’s PC release (although no guarantees on that one). This is some good stuff, maybe not as exciting a The City That Never Sleeps but no one can complain when all of these are free of costs. Nothing in this article is official though. That will only happen once Insomniac announces it.
