Resident Evil Reviews - Audience Roasts the Netflix Series

The latest instalment of the popular video game franchise Resident Evil, which sees the world taken over by zombies after being exposed to a terrifying virus, was released on Netflix on Thursday. The live-action version is receiving negative reviews from fans, demonstrating once more how difficult it is for the Resident Evil series to produce any decent adaptation.

After watching the episode, viewers seem to agree that “Ain’t no f**king WAY this is Resident Evil, bro,” as one Twitter user put it. We can understand why folks might feel that way based on the bizarre clip of a song and dance routine that was shared in that same Tweet. One viewer called the series “unwatchable” and found it “remarkable” just how badly it was adapted. Another Twitter user was baffled that a joke about “Zootopia porn” from a leaked script of the show appeared in the finished product.

Resident Evil Viewers Have Mixed Reactions To The Netflix Adaptation

The first two Resident Evil video games were heavily influenced by the zombies in George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead films. The first game even took place in the classic gothic backdrop of a creepy mansion. Romero even directed a Resident Evil 2 advertisement at one point, which is still regarded as maybe the best live-action recreation of the games.

However, not all viewers were unimpressed with the new series. Someone tweeted: “Wow… I am actually halfway through the season and #ResidentEvilNetflix is actually REALLY good. It is NOT an adaptation of the games, but an adaptation of the lore and it’s actually working very WELL. @lancereddick is an AMAZING Wesker, I love this new take.”

Matt McMuscles, a videogame YouTuber, tweeted that the show was “a decent sci-fi zombie show,” however, “it has no relation to Resident Evil. Like, zero.” Another supporter claimed that even though they didn’t think it was good, they “kind of enjoying it.”

Resident Evil’s critical reception mirrors the varied responses received so far from fans. Despite receiving a “D,” the show has a 53 percent critical score on the review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes. The audience rating, which was much less generous, came in at a dismal 26 percent. It’s IMDB score is also a meager 3.4/10 and is surely one of the worst things Netflix has produced.

You can never trust IMDB scores that low; it’s almost never due to anything other than brigading.
