It appears that Bandai Namco Entertainment has just announced Tekken 8 during Evo 2022. One of the most well-known fighting game franchises since 1994, Tekken has had a lot of updates and spin-offs. And while Bandai Namco has continued to support Tekken 7’s 2015 release over the years rather than releasing a new sequel, it appears that Tekken 8 may now be in the works.

Bandai Namco seems to have given its first hint that the next Tekken game is already in development with a trailer that teased a new update for Tekken 7. The end of the video featured a brief flashback to the first episode of Tekken in which the character Kazuya launches Heihachi off a cliff before grinning at the camera. However, it suddenly switched to a new character model of Kazuya that more closely reflects how he appears in current games as he turns to face the camera. Before the video ended, the words “Get Ready” appeared on the screen. Watch the trailer above.
The most plausible scenario seems to be that this hint was for Tekken 8, even if Bandai Namco hasn’t yet confirmed it. The reasoning behind this assumption is that Tekken 7 is getting on in years, which would make room for a new instalment in the series. Although the game’s developer, Bandai Namco, continues to support it, Tekken 7 was first released in 2015. As a result, it appears as though the game’s lifespan is coming to an end.
It’s important to remember that the most recent interval between mainline entries stretched up to eight years. The 2007 release of Tekken 6 was followed by the Tekken 7. It would imply that Tekken 8 should be arriving soon, assuming that the same interval between entries occurs once more. In the upcoming weeks and months, maybe Bandai Namco will have more to say about this tease regarding Tekken’s future.
