Just when you thought CD Projekt RED had closed the book on The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, they dropped a surprise: the long-awaited “one more patch”, which would finally bring cross-platform mod support to consoles but it has been delayed to 2026. Back in May 2025, CDPR announced that the 10-year-old RPG would get its “final patch,” enabling mod support on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S via the mod.io platform. But as of late September, they confirmed the rollout will now come in 2026.
So, yes consoles will get mods (textures, bundle mods, maybe some script-based ones — though not all PC mods will survive the jump thanks to “content guidelines and selection criteria”). If you were waiting to replay on PS5 or Xbox with community mods, you got a little more waiting to do. But hey, better done right than buggy. But that’s not it, it is being speculated that the final patch would come along with a new story DLC!
The Witcher 3: Is There Really a New Story DLC or Exapansion Coming?

As reported by various gaming outlets and rumor-mills, there’s speculation that Witcher 3 might get a brand-new story DLC in 2026, developed by studio Fool’s Theory (yes, the same group working on the remake of the original Witcher). Word from a Polish podcast picked up by media outlets suggests this could even act as a narrative bridge to The Witcher 4, maybe a small quest chain, or an epilogue connecting the events of Witcher 3 to what’s coming next. And seems like all fans agree this rumored DLC would focus on Ciri and of course who else could be about. Ciri has always been the true protagonist of the Witcher saga in books and is the confirmed lead for The Witcher 4.
Fans speculate that developing this new story DLC could be the reason for the patch’s delay as well. If it does happen, it would be remarkable how the Witcher 3 has continued to keep fans invested for past 10 years. While games like Hogwarts Legacy and Spider-man 2 have disappointed fans with next to no post game support, Witcher has kept fans busy with numerous DLC’s. Even back in 2022, they came up with an entire new story quest of obtaining Netflix Witcher armor. So, a final quest to end its tremendous 10 year year, is something we can very well believe!
That said: this is not official. CDPR hasn’t confirmed anything. The report doesn’t reveal size, pricing (free or paid), exact release date — nothing concrete other than “2026 earliest.” So for now, treat it as what it is: a rumor. But an exciting one, especially for old-school Geralt fans waiting for “just one more ride.”
What this could all mean for fans

- Console players finally get legit mod support — meaning new outfits, UI tweaks, audiovisual overhauls, maybe even custom fan-made quests.
- PC players likely keep enjoying the mod scene as before — with mod.io offering a unified hub for PC and console mods.
- If the rumored DLC arrives: we could get new story content — maybe minor, maybe significant — that links Witcher 3 to Witcher 4’s universe (bridging the gap between Geralt’s world and the next saga).
- Or… nothing. Since it’s unconfirmed, CDPR could just stick with the mod patch and call it a day.
So… Should you be hyped or skeptical?

Honestly — a bit of both. The mod patch is real, just delayed; and that’s great news. If you play on console, it’s something to look forward to in 2026. As for the new DLC — take it with a grain of salt. Cool rumor, but until CDPR puts out an official announcement, it’s just wishful thinking (with a healthy dose of Witcher-fan hope).
Still — hey, even if it’s just mods + maybe a small quest, the thought that Witcher 3 might live just a bit longer is kind of beautiful. And if that leads into Witcher 4? Well… fire up your Silver sword.
