Witcher 4 More Than Half of CDPR Staff Working on the Sequel, Reveals Report

While Netflix is currently struggling with The Witcher IP, the one thing Witcher that did not disappoint in the recent past was The Witcher 3 Next Gen update which one again dragged fans back into the world of Witcher. Also, as you may know, CD Projekt Red announced quite a few exciting Witcher game updates last year including The Witcher (2007) remake, Project Polaris, and Project Sirius. As it happens, today we have an amazing update regarding the next game in the Witcher series which we’ll refer to as The Witcher 4 in this article.

CDPR Report Reveals The Witcher 4 Is Now In Full Swing!

With its latest patch, CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077 has finally become the game we all wanted in the first place. Now that the work on Cyberpunk’s Phantom Liberty DLC is finally about to wrap up, the devs will now be able to shift their prime focus on The Witcher. As you may know, there are 3 major CDPR Witcher related projects which have already been announced. One of these 3 projects is the Project Polaris which is basically the codename for the next instalment in the series which would launch a new trilogy.

CD Projekt Red’s recent financial report revealed how much staff is working on Polaris aka The Witcher 4 and as of October 31, 2023 it’s over 50% of the CDPR development team. Roughly 330 people are now working on the Witcher sequel and this is a tremendous increase from the last quarters report where nearly 260 devs were involved in the projext while over 300 were working on Phantom Liberty. Back then CEO Adam Kiciński stated, “The Polaris team has grown to almost 260 developers at the end of July. After releasing Phantom Liberty, we will transfer a big part of the team to Polaris.

Well, it seems like he meant what he said and now Witcher 4 is their primary focus and the development is now in full swing. Also, as per Kicinski, the number of people working on The Witcher 4 will grow as high as 400 developers by mid 2024. From the above chart, you can see the quarter wise staff distribution for various CDPR projects. The yellow-blue Cyberpunk bar will soon be further reduced and more resources will be allocated to Project Polaris (sea-grean) and Project Sirius (red). Project Polaris or Witcher 4 will use Unreal Engine 5 instead of REDengine, which the two previous games used. The game is to be the beginning of a new saga and CDPR aims to release two more games after Polaris, creating a new AAA RPG trilogy.

CD Projekt Red has promised that the trilogy would all be released within six years of the first release. As for, Project Sirius, it is a codename for a game developed by The Molasses Flood and will be created with support from CDPR. It is said to differ from past productions, offering multiplayer gameplay on top of a single-player experience including a campaign with quests and a story. We also know that one of the other projects (dark blue) is The Witcher Remake which will probably come out by 2025.
