James Cameron has always been someone who has looked to push the limits of Cinema. Be it in his weird storytelling choices or be it the scale of his movies. After wowing the world with Titanic that was the highest grossing movie of all time, it was James Cameron again who dared to go above and beyond his predecessor. He revolutionized the 3D movies with his next film. His film Avatar pushed the frontier of films in every way possible, well maybe not in the screenplay department but hey who went to watch that film for a deep, moving story? The film as we all know became the highest grossing movie of all time beating Titanic. It was dethroned for a while but it regained its spot right back. Now Cameron is ready with a sequel for us, actually not one but four. Although for now let’s talk about the one releasing this year.
So, Avatar 2 or Avatar: The Way of Water is the direct sequel to the 2008’s Avatar. Earlier this year we got the teaser for the film that gave us some idea about how the sequel might look like. Also, this month at a Disney event, 4 scenes of the sequel were shown but they weren’t released. Now we’ve gotten another news that looks like some more Avatar 2 footage is out.
Lightyear Screenings show an edited Avatar 2 Trailer
While we’re desperately waiting for the official trailer of Avatar 2, it looks like the likelihood of it dropping soon is pretty high. So the Chris Evans starrer Lightyear released this week and it seems like Disney has attached Avatar 2’s new trailer with it. Recently, people who saw the trailer came out with a description of what was shown. Jake Sully is on a weird aquatic animal and having a showdown,, almost like totting an automatic rifle. Although in this edited version, Sully is totting a spear instead.
Another shot in the trailer, also included guns, but they weren’t certain whether it was modified. Of course, it’s different having a dramatic shot of the hero brandishing a gun, than just having them included in the film at some point. The changes in the trailer mostly feel like Disney making the film politically correct. Avoiding glorying gun violence given recent events in the US. The sequel brings back the Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington from the original.
Zoe recently stated this about the sequel, “It’s exciting; nerve-wracking. Humbling as well, you know – the wait is finally over. And we get to share something that we love so much with so many people that we know love it, too.”
Avatar: The Way of Water releases on 16th December 2022.
