It has been twelve years later since we’ve heard from Pandora and now we’re getting a sequel to the highest grossing movie of all time – Avatar 2: The Way of Water, The sequel has been in the works for a long time as James Cameron, director of Avatar wanted to expand on the world created by him. After Disney’s acquisition of Fox, they not only green lit the sequel rather other 4 follow-up films as well that are suppose to release every 2 years. The studio has sure put in a lot of trust in Cameron and given his track record with box office numbers, they’ve taken a calculated risk. Earlier this year we’d gotten our first look at the sequel as the official teaser was released by Disney. Since then we’ve been getting small nuggets of information and footages for the sequel but no official trailer yet.
Some official images have been released that give us an idea of what specific characters will look like in the sequel. Like Kate Winslet’s Na’vi. Cameron is cooking something meaty for the audiences. The visuals in the film might and should be better than the original, the heavy post production work might be the reason behind the trailer being delayed but the wait was finally over as the official trailer of the sequel released last week. The trailer looked stunning and why not after all the film is made on a budget of $250 Million or is it? The latest report about the film says otherwise.
Avatar 2: The Way of Water Is One of the Most Expensive Films Ever Made!
For the longest time we were under the impression that Avatar’s sequel was made on a budget of $250 Million, which is only $13 Million more than the first part part which had a budget of $237 Million. However, a recent report suggests that the film’s total budget is much more than what we’d anticipated. According to THR, Avatar: The Way of the Water’s budget was reported to be one of the priciest in Hollywood’s history. Sources noted that it is between the range of $350 million to $400 million.
The most expensive film of all time produced in Hollywood is Pirates of Caribbean: On Stranger’s Tides which stars Johnny Depp. That film was made on a budget of $379 Million. If Avatar 2 surpasses that than it is the most expensive film ever. Reportedly, a total of $1 Billion are at stake to produce the 4 upcoming Avatar sequels. That being said, Avatar is one of rarest films that is being released in China (IMAX) on 16th December, which makes its chances of recovering its massive budget even higher.
The first Avatar earned a total of $261.8 Million in China alone, so securing a China release is a big plus for the film. Watch the Official Trailer For Avatar 2: The Way of Water Here:
