Avatar The Way of Water Crosses $2 Billion At Worldwide Box Office!

James Cameron has done it again. As if that was a surprise. The veteran director has proved himself once again and his newest sequel has reaffirmed his bond with the audiences. Avatar: The Way of Water, despite being the last film to release in 2022, has become the biggest one of the year. It seems like the 13 year long wait was worth it. The film has already broken so many box office records that cannot even cover in one article. Cameron’s Avatar is not a film, but a phenomenon. It might have not began on a banger but it certainly picked up as the sequel raced to the $1 Billion mark in just 12 days, making it only the third film of 2022 to do so and the fourth overall post pandemic. The success of the film has placed Cameron second on the Highest Grossing Directors of All Time List.

Cameron has also achieved a unique record for himself as he becomes the first director ever to have three films with over $1.5 Billion at the worldwide box office. All of them were consecutive. The sequel is unstoppable as just recently it crossed Spider-Man: No Way Home’s lifetime collections (worldwide), making it the highest grossing film post pandemic. All this sounds amazing, although I think the sequel has achieved something that will make every other record look petty. It has become the third James Cameron film to cross $2 Billion.

Avatar: The Way of Water Has No Stopping!

James Cameron’s sequel has crossed $598 Million at the domestic box office and the film’s international collection is $1.426 Billion making its global cume over $2 Billion, more precisely $2.024 Billion. This makes it the third Cameron film to achieve this milestone, making Cameron the first director to have three such films. The sequel is now the sixth highest grossing film of all time, it stands just below Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 billion), 2015’s Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens ($2.069 billion), 1997’s Titanic ($2.201 billion), 2019’s Avengers: Endgame ($2.797 billion) and 2009’s Avatar ($2.9 billion).

With the current trajectory of the sequel, it is certain that it will surpass Infinity War and Force Awakens’ lifetime collections in the coming weeks. This will put The Way of Water on the fourth spot just below Avatar, Titanic and Endgame. Three of the four highest grossing films are James Cameron’s. It would need $900 Million more to come close to its predecessor. The Way of Water becomes the second fastest film (39 days) to reach $2 Billion after Endgame (historic 11 days). The first Avatar breached the threshold in 45 days. The amazing performance of the sequel has made sure that the sequel turns profit despite its insane budget of $460 Million (Most Expensive Ever).
