Avatar: The Way of Water is the new James Cameron film and just like any other of his films, it has a habit of shattering box office records. The sequel has been an unstoppable force at the box office ever since its release. Be it crossing $1 Billion in 12 days or becoming the highest grossing film of 2022. Because of the immense success of the sequel James Cameron has becoming second highest director of all time, just behind Steven Spielberg. Cameron has also become the only director to have three films with over $2 Billion at the global box office. The Way of Water’s gigantic box office numbers makes its budget ($460 Million) look minuscule, despite it possibly being the most expensive film ever. The unstoppable sequel has achieved another milestone in its glorious run which might be the most precious of all.
Avatar: The Way of Water Is The 4th Highest Grossing of All Time!
Just before the weekend begins, Deadline reports that Avatar: The Way of Water refuses to slow down as it has just surpassed the lifetime collection of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens and has taken the fourth spot at the highest grossing films of all time. Three out of the four are James Cameron’s films on that list including Avatar ($2.9 Billion), Avengers: Endgame ($2.79 Billion), Titanic ($2.2 Billion) and now Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.075 Billion) marginally surpassing Force Awakens’ $2.071 Billion.
The Way of Water is set to emerge as the #1 film for the seventh time this weekend, it continues to get cash from overseas markets despite it slowing down at the domestic box office as it only generated $20 Million last weekend ($608 Million). Considering the trend, the sequel may well cross Titanic and enter the Top 3, however, that means earning more $119 Million. After that passing Endgame and Avatar seems like an impossible feat but you never know, many experts had predicted that the Way of Water may not ever touch $2 Billion. So, never say never.
