Avatar: The Way of Water Tops Disney+ Viewership Ranking

Avatar: The Way of Water grossed $2.32 billion worldwide, highest grossing film post the pandemic. After ruling the box office throughout the world, the sequel has now found its home on Disney. A deal between Disney and Warner Bros. enables the platforms to share the streaming rights for the 20th Century Fox’s theatrical releases. Although, the deal was only valid for films that released before the end of 2022. Which is exactly why Disney won’t be able to put Avatar: The Way of Water on Disney+. In fact, the company would have to share the film as it would release on Disney+ and Warner Bros’ Max on the same day. This would definitely put a damper on Disney’s plans as they can no longer market the film as an exclusive release. However, despite this split streaming distribution it appears as the film has topped the Disney+ viewership ranking.

Avatar: The Way of Water Is Ruling Disney+!

A new list was released by Whip Media that reveals the ranking of streaming movie viewership from Friday, 9th June to Sunday, 11th June based on data from TV Time. The list revealed that The Way of the Water was the most-watched movie on streaming from that weekend not just on Disney+, but for every streamer, after debuting on Wednesday, June 7. Nicholas Cage’s Renfield is also in the list ranked at the second spot as it began streaming on Peacock from June 9th.

Renfield was higher in this list, above both Shazam! Fury of the Gods on Max and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania on Disney+, with Creed III completing the top five after its debut on Amazon Prime Video.
