When it comes to the action-horror genre, there is one franchise who’s name always popped up – Predator. The first Predator was directed by John McTiernan released in 1987, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura as commandos being stalked by an alien in the jungle. Predator is one of the reasons that Arnold has such a huge fanbase. The success of the film spawned three sequels: Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010) and The Predator (2018). The quality of the franchise deteriorated with each new instalment until 2022’s Prey. As Prey, a standalone Predator movie finally worked, the studio is now considering making more such films. One was just announced.
Badlands: New Predator Movie Is In Development!
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that 20th Century Studios is considering a new Predator movie spin-off that will set in the future. The film will be called “Badlands”. The studio has even found a director for the film – Dan Trachtenberg. Yes, he also directed Prey. It looks like the studio is sticking with him as they trust in his vision to make another successful Predator spin-off.
His credits include His other credits 10 Cloverfield Lane, the pilot for The Boys and Black Mirror: Playtest. Trachtenberg will also serve as director on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. The report further states that the film will begin production later this year. Trachtenberg even landed an Emmy nomination for Prey.
Prey was directly released on Hulu in 2022 but many expressed their desire to watch the film on the big screen. So, I have no clue whether Badlands would be a streaming release or will the studio consider a theatrical release.
Badlands doesn’t have an official release at the time of writing.
