Barbie has grossed $1.43 billion at the worldwide box office, after 11 weeks of theatrical release. The film officially surpassed The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s $1.365 billion and based on all the releases lined up this year, I don’t think so any other film will touch Barbie’s collection. But then again, no one expected Barbie to be such a success. So, the future is a mystery.  The Greta Gerwig summer smash has crossed Avengers: Age of Ultron globally making it the 14th highest grossing movie of all time (worldwide). The film also crossed The Avengers domestically making it 11th highest grossing movie of all time (domestic). Today, for the first time we have an official update on Barbie’s Blu-ray release date.

Barbie Physical Release Is Happening Soon!

Barbie movie’s 4K and Blu-Ray was officially announced through its official X (formerly Twitter) account. The film will debut via Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on October 17th. Barbie released a short trailer to plug the upcoming release set to Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World,” showing a few fun clips from the film starring Margot Robbie as Stereotypical Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. This comes after the film became officially available digitally on September 12th, 54 days after its theatrical debut. This is one of the longer theatre to digital windows for Warner Bros. as the studio has an aggressive digital release policy.

This summer has Barbenheimer frenzy. Barbie and Oppenheimer released at a time when summer 2023 ticket sales were down 7% from the same time in 2022 after films like The Flash underperformed at the box office. Since the beginning of “Barbenheimer,” the summer gross drastically improved, with the tally now standing $4.028 billion, the most since the summer of 2019, which hit $4.34 billion thanks, in part, to The Lion King and Spider-Man: Far From Home, which each eclipsed the billion-dollar mark globally. Both the blockbusters have triggered a spike in ticket sales by 16.6% helping Hollywood to go back to pre-pandemic levels for the first time in 4 years.

The film’s script has been co-written with Greta Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, Frances Ha, White Noise). Margot Robbie will star in the titular role with Ryan Gosling playing Ken, Barbie’s male counterpart. The rest of the cast includes, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackay and Hari Nef.
