Barbie is now headed towards another box office milestone. The film is on course to become 2023’s Highest Grosser, besting The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s $1.3 billion. However, despite Barbie’s amazing box office run Warner Bros. has decided that audiences would be able to watch Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster at home. An earlier report confirmed us that the film will be available for digital purchase online on Tuesday, September 5. After only 46 days of its theatrical run, the summer smash was available for fans to watch the summer blockbuster at home. However, just today a new report has refuted this online release date and instead given us a new date for the film’s digital debut.
Barbie Is Still Coming Out Next Month!
After yesterday’s announcement for a special IMAX run for Barbie from September 22nd to 28th with additional footage, Warner Bros. also announced that the earlier date revealed to be Barbie’s digital debut has been revised. According to an official listing from YouTube Movies, via WhenToStream, Barbie will officially be available for digital purchase on Tuesday, September 12. Barbie’s new digital release date could hint at a delayed streaming release window for the film as well.
Barbie’s script has been co-written with Greta Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, Frances Ha, White Noise). Margot Robbie will star in the titular role with Ryan Gosling playing Ken, Barbie’s male counterpart. The rest of the cast includes, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackay and Hari Nef.
