I think at this point everyone is aware that there is a live action Barbie movie on its way. The film is the first to adapt the iconic Mattel toyline into a live action flick. The film is helmed by Greta Gerwig who is an Oscar winning director for Lady Bird. She has co-written the film with Marriage Story’s director Noah Baumbach. Not to mention Gerwig and Baumbach have been in a romantic relationship from 2011. So them writing a Rom-Com like this could be really great. The film is produced by Warner Bros. and stars Margot Robbie in the titular role with Ryan Gosling playing Ken, Barbie’s male counterpart. The rest of the cast includes, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackay and Hari Nef. The film has been well into production since Spring.
The filming of the film has been going on in London under tight security, which has to be joke seeing the amount of set photos we’ve gotten that have revealed so many sets and different outfits of Barbie and Ken. Apart from them, the official first looks revealed by Warner Bros. shows us Robbie’s Barbie driving a pink convertible in a pink set and Gosling’s Ken in a denim vest flaunting his physique. We’ve been getting regular updates about the Barbie movie however, lately the updates have been scant and there is a pretty good reason for that. The filming for the movie wrapped up about 2 months ago. Recently, the movie’s lead star Margot Robbie talked about the leaked set photos and videos. Apparently she was really upset about the leaks and continue to read below to find out why?
Barbie: Why was Margot Robbie Pissed About the Set Leaks?
In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Margot Robbie talked about the leaked photos and videos of the Barbie movie and to everyone’s surprise she really pissed, mortified is the word she used, seeing the leaks all over the internet. Just to be clear it wasn’t because it spoiled the movie or ruined it in some fashion, the reason is more personal than you’d think. The actress continued to tell Jimmy Fallon on why was the leak so annoying to her and the entire crew.
“I can’t tell you how mortified we were, by the way,” Robbie said while appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “We look like we’re like laughing and having fun, but we’re dying on the inside. Dying. I was like, this is the most humiliating moment of my life.” A series of leaked images and videos in June featured Ryan and Margot in neon colored costumes. She continued, “I mean, I knew that we had some exteriors to shoot in L.A.,” Robbie continued. “I knew once you were doing exteriors, you’re gonna get papped. There’s probably going to be a little crowd of people who are going to take notice because, you know, we stand out a little bit in those outfits. So I knew there was going to be a little bit of attention, and probably some photos would get out there, but not like it did. It was like mad. It was like hundreds of people watching all time.”

Robbie and Mackay being in the same film. Both actresses have famously been called each others’ doppelgangers and I think everyone can see why. It’ll be really fun to see both of them on screen together. The Barbie film seems to be banking on nostalgia and as well as make sufficient changes for the contemporary audience to get on board. The film is off to a great start as it was already riled up twitter with its spicy first looks and set photos. Hope the film is as spicy as the snippets we’ve seen until now.
The Barbie movie is slated to be released on July 21st 2023.
