Barbie Vs. Oppenheimer Second Week

The Barbenheimer craze is for real. Both films are absolutely killing it at the box office. The duo has grossed a combined figure of  $511.2 million worldwide. Almost double of what was predicted earlier. Many records were broken. Barbie became the biggest opening weekend of 2023 ($155 million) as the film surpassed The Super Mario Bros. The Greta Gerwig directorial also became the biggest opening weekend collection for any film directed by a woman. Oppenheimer on the other hand, became Nolan’s biggest non-IP opener ($80.5 million) and among the best for an R-rated biographical drama. It also happens to be the first time in the history of cinema that one movie opened at more than $100 million and the other at more than $80 million.

When the dust settles, this will be the fourth biggest box office weekend ever. Also, this is the second busiest time at the box office post pandemic as nearly 18.5 million footfalls have been recorded in the US, first being Spider-Man: No Way Home (20 million). However, after this bombastic start how are both the films holding up? What is there second weekend going to look like? Let’s find out.
