Netflix’s upcoming film Blonde will focus on the life of Hollywood’s “blonde bombshell” Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn Monroe was an American actress extremely popular in the 1950s and 60s. She was considered to be the sex symbol of Hollywood and soon became the emblem for the sexual revolution of that era. The film would be adapted from the 2000 novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. The film is directed by Andrew Dominik. It is a psychological drama. The film has one of the most impressive ensemble cast including Adrien Brody, Jessica Chastain, Sara Paxton, Bobby Cannavale, Xavier Samuel, Julianne Nicholson, Scoot McNairy and Ana de Armas who plays the titular character Marilyn Monroe.

The casting of Armas as Monroe was one of the most celebrated casting decisions ever as everyone agreed that she looked the part and no one can doubt her acting capabilities. There was hype around already because of the subject matter and impressive cast but the trailers of the film further extended the intrigue. The film was recently given NC-17 rating by the sensor board and Ana de Armas was unhappy with this as she thought this is too harsh. With the film’s release date near, critics have seen the film and given their opinions. However, today we’re not here to discuss that. Today we’re taking a look at a very unorthodox critic, an actor-Chris Evans.

Chris Evans says Ana de Armas Will Win An Oscar For Blonde!

We all know Chris Evans for playing the role of Captain America / Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, he has starred in many other films where he has showcased his “true” acting capability. He has worked with Ana de Armas in quite a few films in the recent years. Both actors are good friends and have often shown interest in each other’s work. In a recent interview with Variety for Blonde’s showcase, Chris Evans revealed his first reaction after seeing Ana de Armas’ Marilyn Monroe.

The Snowpiercer actor said, “I think this was one of the first opportunities she had to really sink her teeth into something incredibly demanding,” Evans, who starred in Knives Out and The Gray Man with de Armas, told the outlet. “I didn’t see one bit of fear; I saw excitement.” He went on to reveal his reaction from seeing de Armas’ initial camera test, revealing: “I remember looking at it and saying, ‘OK, that’s Marilyn … where’s your shot? That’s you? Holy sh-t! You’re going to win an Oscar for this!'”

Chris Evans speculating that Ana de Armas would win an Oscar for Blonde is not a stretch even if the film has gotten mixed reviews, every reviewer has praised and hailed Armas’ performance. As of this writing the critical consensus reads: “Blonde can be hard to watch as it teeters between commenting on exploitation and contributing to it, but Ana de Armas’ luminous performance makes it difficult to look away.” ComicBook.com’s Patrick Cavanaugh awarded it a 3 out of 5 rating, noting that it’s “Poised to be a breakout vehicle for de Armas,” calling her “riveting to watch.”

At the time of writing the film has a 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an IMDb score of 6.2/10. Honestly, the uncanny resemblance that Armas has to Monroe itself deserves an Oscar and based on the things that I’ve heard from everyone, I can safely assume that Armas’ performance will be one of the best performances, if the not the best. So, Evans predicting an Oscar for Armas for Blonde may not be a bad guess. We’ll have to wait for another 3 months for the nominations to come out.

Blonde was given an NC-17 rating the Motion Picture Association and that didn’t sit well with Ana de Armas. The actress said, “I didn’t understand why that happened. I can tell you a number of shows or movies that are way more explicit with a lot more sexual content than Blonde,” she explained. “But to tell this story it is important to show all these moments in Marilyn’s life that made her end up the way that she did. It needed to be explained. Everyone [in the cast] knew we had to go to uncomfortable places. I wasn’t the only one.”

Netflix’s Blonde is currently released in limited theatres and will debut on the Streaming Platform on 28th September 2022.
