Crime 101: The Heist of the Year is Here On Amazon Prime

If you missed the theatrical run back in February, your patience just paid off. Crime 101 officially started streaming on Prime Video today, April 1, 2026. This movie has been one of the most anticipated thrillers of the year, especially with a cast that looks like an Avengers reunion but with more expensive suits and fewer capes.

The A-List Powerhouse

The film features some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Chris Hemsworth leads the pack as Mike Davis, a disciplined jewel thief who lives by a strict set of rules to stay off the grid. Mark Ruffalo plays Lou Lubesnick, a veteran detective who is the only one smart enough to see the pattern in Mikeโ€™s crimes. Halle Berry rounds out the trio as Sharon, a high-end insurance broker who finds herself in a very compromising position. You also get incredible performances from Barry Keoghan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Nick Nolte.

The Story Breakdown

The plot is based on the 2020 novella by legendary crime author Don Winslow. It follows Mike as he pulls off high-stakes robberies along the 101 freeway in Los Angeles. He is a ghost who leaves no DNA and avoids violence at all costs. Things get messy when a volatile younger criminal named Ormon, played by Barry Keoghan, enters the picture and starts breaking Mikeโ€™s golden rules.

While the police department ignores Louโ€™s theories about a lone thief, Lou goes rogue to track Mike down himself. The tension peaks when Mike tries to recruit Sharon for a massive diamond heist involving one of her wealthiest clients. It is a classic cat-and-mouse game where everyone is trying to outsmart the system while dealing with their own personal baggage.

Critical Reception and Vibes

Directed by Bart Layton, the man behind American Animals, this film feels like a love letter to 90s crime classics. It currently holds a strong 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising the chemistry between Hemsworth and Ruffalo. Even though it had a bit of a rough time at the box office against some heavy competition, it is finding a massive second life on streaming. It is stylish, gritty, and focuses more on character depth than mindless explosions.

If you want a smart thriller that actually respects your intelligence, this is the one. It has all the sun-bleached grit of Los Angeles and enough twists to keep you guessing until the final frame.

Thoughts?

This film brings serious star power to your living room. Seeing Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo together is a treat for any fan of their past work, but here they trade superhero capes for gritty, high-stakes heist.

While it faced a tough journey at the box office with a 90 million dollar budget, audiences currently praise it as one of the most engaging thrillers of the year. It provides exactly what you want from a heist movie: plenty of intrigue, smart planning, and a dramatic showdown that will leave you glued to the screen.
