Don't Worry Darling: Harry Styles Spits on Chris Pine

Olivia Wilde’s second directorial venture, Don’t Worry Darling stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles in the lead with the supporting cast including Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, Kiki Layne and Sydney Chandler. The film’s story circles around the people who are living in an experimental community, things take a turn when a housewife starts to suspect that her husband’s company is hiding disturbing secrets. Promotional material for the film has been circulating around in theatres for a while. The film’s trailer looked quite pretty and had an eerie vibe to it. While Wilde is directing the film, the screenplay of the film is by Katie Silberman, based on a story by Carey Van Dyke, Shane Van Dyke and Silberman.

The film had its premiere at the 79th Annual Venice Film Festival that is taking place between 31st August and 10th September. The critics and journalists who saw the film in attendance have given their first impressions and reviews of the film and needless to say that the film is being roasted. Currently, the film is graded “Rotten” on Rotten Tomatoes. However, more than the film its promotion has set the internet on fire. The film has been amongst many controversies, the latest being the film’s star Harry Styles has been spitting on his co-star Chris Pine in a promotional event. Shocked, right? However, let’s decode whether this actually true or another fan made gossip.

Don’t Worry Darling: There Is a Rift Between Harry Styles and Chris Pine?

Don’t Worry Darling is not alien to controversies. The film was first on the gossip table because of an ugly departure of the film’s original lead star Shia LaBeouf. In addition, some reports also suggests that there is a feud between director Olivia Wilde and the film’s lead Florence Pugh. The film had a very troubled production and the storm of negative reviews that it is getting doesn’t help. Out of everything that could’ve gone wrong for the film, in a recent video at a promotional event it looks like another two stars of the film have a rift.

In the video it looks like previous One Direction member Harry Styles spits on Wonder Woman star Chris Pine while at a panel on the Venice Film Festival. As soon as this video was shared on the internet it spread like wildfire and many theories popped up. One of them being that the two actors also are in a feud. Well, I don’t know how much you trust the internet but this didn’t seem right to me, so I did a little digging. After reading about what happened in the film festival it is quite clear that this whole thing is nuisance.

Firstly, as soon as these theories were circulating on the internet, Chris Pine’s PR team instantly released a statement that denies of any rift between the two actors. Obviously it denies that Styles ever spat on the Wonder Woman actor. Read the statement here: “This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation. […] Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. […] There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

While you might consider this as a PR stunt simply to keep the film away from negative light that is not the case. Side note, I’m not denying that the two actors might not like each other or are best friends but to suggest that there was spitting involved is taking it too far. To prove that I’m not just being an optimist and there was genuinely no exchange of saliva from anyone, here is the same video of Harry Styles sitting near Chris Pine in slow motion that clearly shows nothing came out of Harry Styles’ mouth.

What basically happened here is Harry Styles leaned forward before sitting and Chris Pine was looking at him just when he realized that he doesn’t remember where his glasses are. This makes sense as we’ve been hearing how Pine has been zoning out while promoting Don’t Worry Darling. When he started looking for his glasses he looked exactly where Harry Styles had leaned over earlier. He found the glasses and then he put them on. We clearly see nothing coming out of Styles’ mouth, so all this is simply hot goss.

The film has been in a lot of negative light including this controversy, however, this news might’ve just put the film on a lot of people’s lips. It would be interesting to see how the film performances on the box office despite the bad reviews and controversies. The film has been made on a budget of $20 Million, so it is possible it could earn that much back. The film currently has a 42% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 1/10 on IMDb. This might change after the film releases but for now it looks pretty grim.

Don’t Worry Darling is slated to release in theatres near you on 23rd September 2022.
