Dune 2 is the most anticipated film of the year for most cinephiles. The sheer goosebumps that I got while watching the first Dune movie in 2021 is an unforgettable experience for me. It was an outright joy to all my senses. Dune was my favorite film of the year and I hope its part two will the best this year has to offer as well. Whatever marketing material I’ve seen so far has only raised my expectations for the sequel. If you thought Oppenheimer had half of Hollywood then Dune: Part Two has the entire Hollywood. I’ve not seen such a star studded cast since the premiere of Oppenheimer. Speaking of premieres, Anya Taylor Joy made a surprise appearance at the London premiere of Dune 2 where she was confirmed to play a major character in the sequel.
Dune 2 – Anya Taylor Joy Will Appear As Paul’s Sister!
The London premiere of Dune 2 took place last night and the biggest news from the premiere except for Zendaya’s sexy C3PO dress was Anya Taylor Joy’s unexpected appearance with the rest of the ensemble cast of the film. The actress appeared in a very Dune appropriate white gown at the premiere. Shortly after her appearance, Variety confirmed that Joy will appear in a major role in the sequel.
According to Variety’s report, Anya Taylor Joy will feature in Dune: Part Two as Alia Atreides, Paul’s younger sister. Alia’s existence was set up in Dune when Paul told his mother that he is aware of her pregnancy. In Frank Herbert’s novel, Alia is the daughter of Lady Jessica and Duke Atreides who was born on Arrakis eight months later after her father’s death.
Because her mother consumed the Water of Life while she was in the womb, Alia was pre-born, meaning she is fully aware before birth and already has a developed personality. Alia has the ability to access ancestral memories but that also brings the threat of abomination – being overpowered by a memory and potentially going insane.
However, we’re not aware how she has been adapted in the sequel but her role is said to be a major one. Her character’s involvement was a secret for a very long time and any information or even a look has been kept under wraps. It also important to note that Alia was portrayed by Alicia Witt in David Lynch’s Dune, Laura Burton in Frank Herbert’s Dune, and Daniela Amavia in Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune .
Dune 2 adds even more faces into the fold, including Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, Christopher Walken as Shaddam IV, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot and now Anya Taylor Joy as Alia Atreides. Dune: Part One is available for streaming on HBO Max or Amazon Prime Video depending on the region where you live.
Dune: Part Two will now exclusively premiere in theatres on March 15th, 2024.
