Dune Part 2

The production for Dune: Part Two has started in Italy, and now a new set photograph has surfaced, giving fans the first glimpse at Black Widow star Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan Corrino. Earlier this week, the image posted on social media gives a basic idea of Pugh’s look in the highly anticipated sequel to 2021’s Dune. Filming for Dune: Part Two is scheduled to start in Budapest, Hungary, on July 21.

Earlier this year, Pugh (Black Widow, Midsommar) was said to be in negotiations to play Princess Irulan, the eldest daughter of Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV, the devious Emperor of the Known Universe, in Dune. In the books, Irulan finally marries Paul Atreides and plays a significant part in the narrative.

Director Denis Villeneuve previously revealed, “It’s going to be another beautiful journey in the desert again. It’s the journey where Paul Atreides and his mother, Lady Jessica, make contact with the Fremen culture and meet with them. It’s Paul’s journey against the enemy… it’s a movie that will be more cinematic.”

Pugh will be joining Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, and other actors who appeared in the first movie to return for the sequel. Dune: Part Two will also see new recruits, such as Austin Butler (Elvis) playing the wicked Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, along with the renowned Christopher Walken as The Emperor and Lea Seydoux (Crimes of the Future) as Lady Margot Fenring.

Prior to Dune’s release, the production team was clear that the movie would only follow the first half of the Frank Herbert book, with the sequel planned to round up the adventure. However, author Jon Spaihts recently disclosed that there have already been discussions about perhaps turning the novel Dune Messiah into a movie, completing a live-action trilogy.

A recently revealed synopsis reads, “Part Two will focus on Paul assembling a massive army of Fremen to combat the ruthless Harkonnen, as he essentially becomes a mythical messiah figure to the inhabitants of Arrakis.” Dune: Part Two will hit theatres on November 17, 2023.
