Eileen is a new psychological mystery/thriller starring Anne Hathway, Thomasin McKenzie, Marlin Ireland, Sam Nivola, Owen Teague and Jefferson White. The film is directed by William Oldroyd and is based on Ottessa Moshfegh’s 2015 novel of the same name. Eileen was Moshfegh’s first novel and it won the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award for debut fiction and was shortlisted for the 2016 Man Booker Prize and the 2015 National Book Critics Circle Award. The film much like the novel was a critical success but didn’t do well at the box office. Made on a budget of only $16 million, the film only earned $1.3 million in its short theatrical run. Since, the film didn’t find its audience at the cinemas, the studio is hoping that Eileen will be success online. Here’s when the film will be available online.
Eileen Gets Imminent Online Release Date!
According to a listing on reliable website dvdreleases, Eileen will be available for purchase on digital and VOD platforms like Vudu, Apple iTunes and Amazon Prime Video from January 2nd, 2024. Meaning that the film will debut digitally 33 days after its theatrical run began. Universal Pictures is distributing the film, so this theatre to digital window seems a little shorter than what is expected from the studio. However, given the film’s financial upset one can understand the decision.
The listing didn’t just provide an online release date but also the physical media release date. The website claims that Eileen will be available for purchase on physical media formats like DVD and Blu-ray from January 30th, 2024, 61 days after its theatrical debut. That’s usual for Universal Pictures production. We don’t have any update on the film’s streaming release date but given that it is a Universal and Focus Features collaboration, the film will stream on Peacock. A date can’t be given at the moment but expect it to be around the physical media release date of the film.
