Actress Jenna Ortega has earned immense praise for her performance as the titular character on Wednesday. Ortega initially passed on the project, but the name of legendary director Tim Burton managed to restore her curiosity about doing a TV series. While it is confirmed that there will be a season 2 of Wednesday, Jenna Ortega will also star in a new film, Finestkind. In addition to Finestkind, Ortega is also involved with a few other projects.

Jenna Ortega: Finestkind and New Works

Finestkind will have its world premiere in September at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. It will be on Paramount+ sometime later. Academy Award-winner Brian Helgeland is the writer and director of this film. He previously directed movies like 42 and Legend and wrote the scripts for L.A. Confidential and Mystic River. The cast of Finestkind includes Ben Foster, Tommy Lee Jones, and Toby Wallace. The film was originally supposed to star Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhall, and Ansel Elgort.

The film takes place in New Bedford, the biggest commercial fishing port in the U.S. It follows two brothers, Foster and Wallace. They come from separate worlds and are reunited as adults over one summer. Under frantic circumstances, the brothers are compelled to strike a deal with a harmful Boston crime syndicate, and a young woman (Jenna Ortega) finds herself stuck in the middle. Sacrifices must be made, and relationships and bonds are put to the test.

Other than Finestkind, the Scream actor will be in A24’s Death of a Unicorn, alongside Paul Rudd. Ortega is also expected to play the role of Winona Ryder’s daughter, Lydia Deetz, in Beetlejuice 2. This highly anticipated sequel to Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice will be released on September 6, 2024. Earlier this year, Netflix confirmed that Wednesday had been renewed for a second season. Due to the ongoing strikes, the release of Wednesday Season 2 might be delayed until 2024.
