Five Nights at Freddy’s is a new horror film that adapts the video game of the same name created by Scott Cawthon. The film being true to its genre released just before Halloween, with little to no critical acclaim. However, the audience went crazy for the film which is a sight for sore eyes when it comes to video games adaptations. But, I guess this year has been good for video games adaptations in general (The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Gran Turismo). The film was produced by Blumhouse, a reputed studio when it comes to horror flicks. It seems like whatever movies Blum chooses blossoms into horror hits as the studio is rarely known for box office disasters and it seems so that their latest venture has surpassed even their expectations as it achieves a major box office feat.

Five Nights at Freddy’s Has Worked Wonder For Blumhouse!

Five Nights at Freddy’s has just become the highest grossing film in the history of Blumhouse studios. The film has earned $295.5 million worldwide against a budget of only $20 million. This is the highest for any film produced at Blumhouse, the previous record holder being Split, M. Night Shyamalan’s 2016 thriller starring James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy. That movie had earned $278.5 million by the time it ended its theatrical run. Jason Blum announced this historic feat of the film on X (previously known as Twitter):

“NAF is the BIGGEST @blumhouse film of ALL-TIME. Just passed SPLIT. thanks to Emma Tammi, Scott Cawthon, cast & the New Orleans crew, the Henson team, & our partners @universalpics & @peacock, @jhutch1992, @matthewlillard, @Piperrubios, @elizethdlail”

The film might cross the $300 million mark in the coming days which would a first for Blumhouse . This news comes to us on the day that the film is supposed to have its digital release. This also means that Five Nights at Freddy’s has become the highest grossing horror film of 2023 beating New Line Cinema, Atomic Monster and The Safran Company’s The Nun II that released back in September. The Emma Tammi directorial has won by a big margin as The Nun II ended its box office run at $268 million.

After seeing the disastrous run of The Exorcist: Believer, I thought that The Nun II will easily defend its crown of being the most successful film in the horror genre but out of nowhere, FNAF came and dethroned the Michael Chaves directorial. Five Nights at Freddy’s is directed by Emma Tammi and based on the video game franchise of the same name. The film stars Josh Hutcherson, Mary Stuart Masterson, Elizabeth Lali, Matthew Lillard, and Piper Rubio.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is available for purchase online from today, November 28th.
