Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is one of the new age Ghostbusters movies which is a sequel of the 2021 Ghostbusters: Afterlife. This horror-comedy franchise was once a fan favorite collection of movies but ever since the late 2010s the franchise has become a shadow itself. The new age reboot starring Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace seemed like a desperate attempt at capturing the charm of the 80s classic. The film had a lukewarm critical reception coupled with a mediocre box office run ($204.3 million against a budget of $75 million). However, it looks like the studio still believes in the potential of the franchise which is why we’re getting a sequel to the 2021 film.
When Will Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Release Online?
According to a new listing on dvdreleasedates, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will be available for purchase or rent on digital and VOD platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Vudu and Apple iTunes from June 18th, 2024. Since the film has not released yet, we can’t understand the box office condition of the film.
However, the critical reception of the Gil Kenan directorial is very bad. With an IMDb rating of 6.6/10 and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 44% from 160 reviews (audience score: 86%), it is clear that Frozen Empire isn’t a huge improvement from its predecessor. Which is why I’m surprised that the studio has deemed an 88 days (almost three months long) theatre to digital release window for the film.
I won’t be surprised if the studio fastracks the online debut of the film after it’s box office performance (Thursday previews $4.7 million, expected domestic opening – $45 million). However, this is an exclusive piece of information that we’re presenting you. This is the only information available about the online release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
