One of the films from last year that I desperately wanted to watch on the big screen was Godzilla Minus One. The film was one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year. Apart from that, the Takashi Yamazaki directorial was one of the most profitable films of 2023 as it was made only on a minuscule budget of $15 million while it has earned $94.8 million worldwide so far. Ever since its release, the Japanese film has been praised by the entire world resulting in such mammoth box office numbers. People are even calling it better than Godzilla’s Monsterverse counterpart. Despite being a worldwide phenomenon, Godzilla Minus One never made its way to India – one of the largest homes of cinephiles. I’m aware that fans across India, including me are curious if the spectacle will ever release in India. Well, today we have an answer to that very question. To know more, please keep reading below.
Godzilla Minus One Is For Sure Coming To India!
Two days after Godzilla Minus One’s USA release, infamous YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) asking PVR Cinemas, a prominent theatre chain in India to buy Godzilla Minus One’s distribution rights so that fans in the subcontinent can enjoy the film on the big screen. His post read, “Hi, @PVRCinemas it’s a sincere request from a lot of us. PLEASE BUY GODZILLA MINUS ONE DISTRIBUTION IN INDIA. We all need to witness it on the big screen.”
Considering the fan following of the YouTuber, PVR Cinemas replied to him on X. They said, “Your request has been duly noted, and we have initiated discussions with our team to explore the possibilities of releasing GODZILLA MINUS ONE in India. In the meantime, feel free to stay connected with us on our official channels for the latest updates and announcements.”
Twelve days since this interaction, Chanchlani once again posted on X and provided us with an update regarding the Japanese film’s release,
“Yo guys inside news Godzilla minus one is coming to India for sure. They are sorting distribution rights but January looks like the potential release month”. Almost a month has passed since this post and yet we don’t have any news on Godzilla Minus One’s release in India. I think it is quite clear that the film won’t be releasing in India anytime in January.
There maybe some legal issues that are preventing PVR frome bringing the film to India. For now, we can expect Godzilla Minus One to arrive in Indian theatres sometime between February to March 2024. Rest assured, if PVR Cinemas is planning to bring the Godzilla flick to India then it will certainly bring it before the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It doesn’t make sense to have two Godzilla movies in theatres at the same time. The New Empire will release in the USA on April 12th, 2024, the film should release in India around the same time as well.
