Gran Turismo is Sony’s newest video game to movie adaptation. The film is based on the studio’s own game of the same name. The filming for Gran Turismo began around a year back and since then Sony Pictures have been slowly teasing their newest video game adaptation, however, a lot of the film’s plot is kept under wraps. In fact, little to no official footage have been revealed by Sony. Many expected the first trailer of Gran Turismo to arrive at CinemaCon 2023, during Sony’s panel on Day 1. However, that didn’t happen. This disappointed a lot of fans. However, as the release date of the movie is close, Sony cannot make fans wait any longer. So, finally the studio released a 15 seconds sneak peek which gave us a quick tease of the trailer that will arrive on May 2nd- which is today and as promised, Sony has delivered.
Gran Turismo Trailer Reveals Too Much!
A little context for the trailer, the Gran Turismo games are racing simulations which try to emulate the appearance and performance of a large selection of vehicles. Unlike the other video game adaptations in development, the Gran Turismo movie will severely deviate away from the source material as the movie is supposed to tell the story of Jann Madenborough who became a race car driver by playing Gran Turismo video games. I’m guessing there is more to Jann’s story but through this overarching story Sony has found a way to develop a big budget movie based on a racing game series that is historically devoid of storytelling.
As mentioned above, the Gran Turismo movie trailer reveals exactly the same. There is nothing more to the film as for now. We see our lead in action played by Darren Barnet along with a charismatic David Harbour and Djimon Hounsou. The trailer’s length is long, I think very long. Honestly, I have gotten the experience of the film just by watching the trailer, which is not ideal. The trailer should render the audience helpless and restless where they can’t wait for the film. I think Sony has done a bad job at the trailer as it reveals almost every plot point of the film. I hope the action sequences of the film are well executed and there is more emotionality attached.
Honestly, I am unimpressed by the new trailer of Gran Turismo. Do share your thoughts. Do you feel the same or do you disagree? Tell us in the comments.
