Gran Turismo was one of the most hyped movies of 2023 as it was the much awaited live action adaptation of Sony’s Gran Turismo car games. The movie isn’t a literal adaptation of the games as it is actually the story of Jann Madenborough who became a race car driver by playing Gran Turismo video games. The film had a lot of expectations on its shoulders and needless to say it didn’t come through. Despite releasing at merry time in the theatres, the film couldn’t find its audience and got lost in the Barbenheimer hangover. Made on a decent budget of $60 million, the film only managed $121 million globally. The Neil Blomkamp directorial has barely broken even. Naturally, after a disappointing box office stint Sony has decided to make Gran Turismo Streming available on Netflix as per their deal with the streaming giant.
Gran Turismo To Start Streaming Very Soon!
When To Stream has revealed that Sony’s Gran Turismo will start streaming on Netflix from December 15th, 2023. This is 112 days after its theatrical release, close to the average 120-day window that Sony has utilized since striking the Pay-One streaming deal with Netflix. Another notable observation is that the film was made available on digital and VOD platforms way back on September 26th. So, it Sony almost full three months to make the film available for streaming.
Meaning the studio wanted to maximize its profits and leave the film exclusively on digital platforms for as long as possible. It is also worth noting that Netflix subscribers will not have to pay any additional cost to stream Gran Turismo once it hits the platform.
The movie stars Darren Barnet, David Harbour, Djimin Hounsou, Archie Madekwe, Orlando Bloom and Gari Halliwell. The film is directed by Neil Blomkamp with a screenplay from Jason Hall, Zach Baylin and Alex Tse. The movie is available for purchase on various digital platforms.
