Hellraiser (2022) is the new movie in the Hellraiser Franchise that started in 1987. It was an adaptation of The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker. Interesting Cliver Barker was the writer director of the film. Since the success of the initial film, many similar films started to come and then there were sequels for the film. While I won’t say every sequel was bad, most of them were but some of them were bearable, some watchable and some were a fun time. However, the franchise just like all the other horror franchises has lost its way and importance. Pinhead was undoubtedly a horror icon but a sense of meaning was lost. For the same reasons, the new Hellraiser film was such a sight for sore eyes. Just based on the trailers of the film of the we knew that this one is different.
It isn’t a cash grab, it is a genuine attempt at created a good horror film. The new film is directed by David Bruckner which is adapted David S. Goyer and Clive Barker’s story, with a screenplay from Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski. The film’s premise is simply given that is belongs to a certain genre and franchise however, I think its execution is better, “A young woman faces the sadistic, supernatural forces behind an enigmatic puzzlebox responsible for her brother’s disappearance.” The film stars Jaime Clayton as Pinhead, Odessa Az’ion, Drew Starkey, Selina Lo, Aoife Hinds, Brandon Flynn and Goran Visnjic. The film recently premiered at Fantastic Fest on 28th September and some critics present there had an opportunity to watch the film and they’ve given out their thoughts.
Hellraiser (2022) Reviews Round-Up: Classic Horror?
The film has only received praises so far, I understand the amount of reviews for the film is limited because Fantastic Fest is not the biggest Film Festival that goes happens that time of the year. Apart from that I’m not sure the film will have a proper premiere before its release, I think it is directly dropping on Hulu. The film doesn’t have an IMDb rating yet but it has a staggering 100% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While I’m sure this perfect rating will take a hit after the film releases, it still is an amazing score to start from. Let’s what the critics have to say.

“Fans, of course, want to know – how is Jamie Clayton‘s performance as Pinhead, the iconic Hell Priest of the Cenobites, once played by Doug Bradley? Jamie Clayton doesn’t just fill Doug Bradley’s gridded flesh; I honestly think she’s even better.”
Original Score: 7.5/10
