Imaginary Friends - John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds Film Gets a New Title + Release Date!

John Krasinski rose to fame in Hollywood with his role of Jim Halpert in the US adaptation of The Office from 2005-2013. After Steve Carell’s Michael Scott, Krasinski’s Jim Halpert was one of the most famous and reliable character of the show. After Carell’s exit in the seventh season, the responsibility of the show pretty much fell on the shoulders of Krasinski, along with Jenna Fishcer’s Pam and Rain Wilson’s Dwight. After his role on The Office ended,  Krasinski pursed a new thing in his career. He went on to direct the extremely innovative and one of the best movies of 2018- The Quiet Place. The film was so successful that Paramount even asked Krasinski to make a sequel of the film. After multiple delays due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The sequel finally released last year and it was a success as well.

After his successful run as a horror director, John Krasinski is back with another project under his belt. He is writing a new a film or has written a new film that is not horror but rather is more of a comedy/fantasy. John Krasinski  in an interview with THR in 2019 revealed, “the tale of a man who can see and talk to people’s imaginary friends, befriending those that have been forgotten or discarded. However, some imaginary friends, lacking love and friendship, turn to the dark side, and it’s up to Reynolds’ character to save the world from those that become evil.”

What is the New Title of John Krasinski ‘s Imaginary Friends?

The film was previously called Imaginary Friends and was slated to release on 17th November 2023. However, the latest update regarding the film suggests the film’s name has been changed and it is now called “If“. Its not just the title that has changed, it is also the release date of the film. Now the film is slated to on 24th May 2024.

If release date change comes as Paramount Pictures announced its Quiet Place prequel, previously set for September 22, 2023, has been delayed to spring 2024. Now titled A Quiet Place: Day One, Krasinski produces director Michael Sarnoski’s prequel spinoff with Platinum Dunes’ Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, and Michael Bay.

It is unclear as now why was the film’s title changed. I mean the new title simply is an abbreviation of the original title: Imaginary Friends – IF. Like what good has it done to the film where you just shorten the film’s title and make it more common. Anyways the film looks interesting and that is credit to the incredible cast. Its worth pointing out that Krasinski will not only reunite with Steve Carell but also direct him.

John Krasinski is writing/directing and also starring in the film. Along with him, the film has Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Indiana Jones 5), Cailey Fleming (The Walking Dead, Marvel’s Loki), Louis Gossett Jr. (Watchmen, The Color Purple), Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter, Killing Eve), Alan S. Kim (MinariAwkwafina Is Nora from Queens), and Krasinski’s former The Office co-star Steve Carell (Minions: The Rise of Gru).

If is slated to release on 24th May 2024.
