MIssion Impossible 8

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One was one of the huge releases of this summer. However, due to the crazy Barbenheimer phenomenon the film couldn’t have a longer run. Even after collecting a decent amount at the box office, Mission Impossible 7 is not a box office success because the film was made on a staggering budget of $291 million. If reports are to believed, it might have suffered a staggering loss of $40 million. However, as Paramount won the lawsuit against their insurer Chubb they were awarded a sum of $71 million because of the delay in production between February 2020 and June 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic across the world and the filming restrictions that came along with it. However, this is not the end of Paramount’s problems, as now the studio is having difficulty to release Mission Impossible 8 on its expected release date.

Mission Impossible 8: Dead Reckoning Part Two Won’t Release Next Year!

According to a new report from Deadline, Paramount is reconsidering the plan to release Mission Impossible 8 next summer on June 28th, 2024 because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes. While you may feel that the strikes would certainly end till the time it releases next year. So why is Paramount so worried? Well, Mission Impossible 8 hasn’t completed filming yet. In fact, just days prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, director Christopher McQuarrie admitted MI8 was only 40% done.

In the same interview, the director talked about Mission Impossible 8’s tight filming schedule, “All the interstitial stuff is shot. There are characters in the movie you don’t even know about yet. And I have one—how would I call it? It’s a sidebar action sequence involving the team, which we haven’t shot yet, and that’s first up as soon as we get back. It’s involving elements that I’ve never worked with before. It’s a big challenge, and it’s a tight schedule. The plan to be wrapped for all principal photography is early next year.”

If that is the case then this is certainly a worrisome matter. Even if the strikes end, actors and director can’t start right away where they’d left before the strike. Considering the massive scale of the film and the all star cast, everyone’s schedule should match for the film to go on floors once again. 60% percent is a lot and I can assume that the film would at least take 6 months to shoot after it goes on floor once everyone manages their time, after the strikes. For now MI 8’s release date remains unchanged.

The film stars Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales and Vanessa Kirby. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two is slated to release on 28th June 2024.
