James Bond 26 Producer Says Nobody's In the Running Yet

James Bond is an iconic pop culture phenomenon. He is a character that everyone whishes to be. He has inspired many kids to become detectives. The character was created by Ian Fleming back in ’62 and the great Sean Connery was the first one to portray the character. He was the man who immortalized the line, “The name’s Bond, James Bond.” The legend played the part from 1962 to 1983. He was followed by David Nixen who is often looked at as the worst iteration of the character. He acted in one movie in 1967. George Lazenby took over after Nixen and played the part from 1968 to 1969. Roger Moore followed him and played the part from 1972 to 1985. The sixth iteration of the character was personified by Timothy Dalton who played it from 1986 to 1994.

Then came in another fan favorite i.e., Pierce Brosnan donned the cape of Bond from 1994 to 2004. Finally, in 2005 Daniel Craig took over the reigns and became James bond.  Daniel Craig was Mr. Bond for over the course of 5 movies that includes Skyfall which is considered to be one of the best detective movies ever. It was directed by Sam Mendes. Unfortunately for fans Daniel Craig ended his tenure as James Bond with 2021’s No Time to Die. His time as James Bond lasted for 16 years. That left fans wondering who will take over the reigns after him? Well, we might’ve gotten an update.

Who Is the next James Bond? Idris Elba?

Daniel Craig has been hinting at his inevitable exit from the role of James Bond for quite a while now. He had supposedly left the cape of the character behind in Spectre. Although, Spectre’s end definitely didn’t seem like a finale to an iconic role. So, as fans suspected Daniel Craig did return for another and final chapter in which he’ll play James Bond. Daniel Craig made it clear that this will be his last film as Bond but fans were still hoping for a utopian future where he will continue as Bond. Although, No Time to Die’s end definitely made it clear for everyone that he is not returning. Spoiler Warning. He dies at the end of No Time to Die. Yeah, that stings.

While there have been many speculations regarding who will play Bond and many have suspected that Edris Elba or Henry Cavil can become 007. However, we haven’t gotten any clarity on the matter. At least at there is no official update. Well, until now. Recently, the Franchise’s long-time producer- Barbara Broccoli stated her views on the impending casting. It has been almost a year since No Time to Die’s released, so this question is a long time coming. She said,  “nobody’s in the running” for the role, as they are still. Working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through”.

Broccoli said: “There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.” However, earlier this year she stated that Edris Elba has been “a part of the conversation” followed by, “when it comes to the new Bond, we’ve all been able to savor, reap the benefits of Daniel’s wonderful tenure, we’re not gonna think about, or talk about anybody else”.

Who do you think should play 007 in his next film? Do you agree with Edris Elba being the fan favorite? Honestly, I’ love to see him as James Bond. He’ll be the first black person to play the part. Except for the fact that Elba is perfect for the role, a black person playing a pop-culture icon is quite a statement in itself. Inclusion is the norm of the 21st Century.

No Time to Die is available for streaming ono multiple OTT platforms including but not limited to Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+
